If you were in charge of Nissan and could put ANY diesel engine in the Titan, What would it be? Since this is a Titan forum and Nissan doesn’t have a diesel option right we should be able to get some fairly un-bias opinions on what diesel engine is the best. I was going to make a poll but there are like 50+ companies that make diesel engines from Mercedes to Rolls Royce.

Obviously the most common 3 are:

Durmax
Cummings
Powestroke (Navvistar)

But please don’t limit your answers to those three. I remember talk that Caterpillar was even going to supply diesel engines for light trucks.

Re: If you were in charge of Nissan and could pick ANY diesel engine for Titan, which one?

Caterpillar C15 15.2L 435hp 1550lbft of torque diesel I-6:gunz:

Capable of being upgraded to 625hp (2050 lbft of torque)

Go big or go home!

Back when DCX had the Power Wagon show truck, it had a Cat 3208 425hp V-8 diesel with 2000lbft of torque with a Cat transmission in it. I wish we had produced that truck. So time for Nissan to become king of the power hill and do it right.

I completely agree with the CAT diesel :)lol: look at sig). Not only are the CATs a fantastic diesel (ACERT technology), but they have a name that everyone wants to own. Everyone wants to own a truck with a legendary name plate (example: Hemi or Cummins) and it would be the best interest of Caterpillar to join up with Nissan to create their truck. I think the Titan with a big ole' "CAT" logo on the door/fender would sell more trucks than Nissan would know what to do with. Apparently the quality of the rest of the truck (aka: Dodge) doesn't matter when you put a fantastic diesel (aka: Cummins) under the hood (No offense to those of you who own Dodge's w/ the Cummins:rolleyes: ). I truely 100% believe that in the diesel game, it's all about the name of the diesel you have under the hood.

That's my $0.02

I grew up in Peoria Illinois, the home of CAT and would love to see one under the hood.

You asked for opinions, well I'll give you my extremely biased one...

First off let me say, because you have made me in charge of Nissan I'm coming to the table with the belief that Nissan should be in the truck market, and we should be in the truck market to stay. We have to just work a bit harder to sell more, and to do that one of the things we need to do is diversify our options, thus a diesel in one thing that needs to be developed.

Second off let me say, because of that commitment in number one, the Titan will receive a brand new diesel, a co-produced engine between Renault and Nissan. Because I'm in charge I can tell you we have experienced a great coming together of Renault and Nissan and have had fantastic success with our new 2.0 dCi (M9R) diesel engine. This was jointly developed by Renault and Nissan and it points towards the future. Time will tell how big we go, and how much power we offer, but know this, power, reliability, environmentally friendly, and economical are all of our priorities in developing this new engine.

:)

Make it somewhere around 4.0 to 4.4 liter V-8 or I-6 turbodiesel with all the modern goodies. Get it close to 300HP and 500+ torque and I'm in. Not to expensive, with good gas mileage (20+ City) would be good too.:)

Our work truck is a ton GMC with the Duramax and allison transmission combination. I'm not a fan of GM but that truck kicks ***. Consumer Reports has the Duramax outperforming the powerstroke and Cummins as well.
I am not familiar with the CAT so I would go with the Duramax for the Titan.

I would prefer to see Cummins. It would have to have decent torque and get 17+ city MPG.

CAT 15.2L, is that going under the hood, or is this for the new Rear Engine RWD Titan?! It might fit in the bed... :)

Duramax for me, lots of positive feedback from guys in a sister company, that run it.

Cummins all the way, especially for the medium-duty class. It would have to be a I6, the V8s are throw-away engines. That's just how diesel V8s are, once you get into the big rigs that make the most power you don't see any V8s...only I6. More longevity, better balance, fewer moving parts.

Forget the Duramax/Isuzu V8, forget the Navistar with the exception of the DT466 (Which is an inline-6), Cat...maybe, but I would pick Detroit over Cat at this point.

It's hard to be unbiased after having had and worked on some of these, the Cummins engine is just awesome and so easy to work on. Nearly 200,000 miles on the on I had, the only engine-related repair I had to do was the water pump. Know how long it took? 10 minutes, including removing and installing the serp belt.

Really though, any well-made inline-6 diesel would be fine with me!

I thought Nissan had a diesel division that built these box/delivery or landscaping trucks? If I ran the company that already had access to our own diesels.... I think it would be a nissan diesel!!

It must be inline 6 turbocharged air to air aftercooled, The Volvos are the most fuel efficient engines in the bigger industrial diesels. 20% better than Cat.
