Hey guys, I've had my 08' LE for over a year now. I was looking for at least a 08' with leather and Nav since the 07' I read had the extra few hp and the 08' had a rear window revision. Its a good truck but I've always wanted a black 13'-15' Pro4x just because I always thought "what if I ever need 4WD, or what if I get stuck somewhere". And I always thought the Pro4x was the "top of the line" Titan you can have. And of course the 13'-15' interior is amazing compared to the previous model titans. But the Pro4x is still pretty pricey for me. So really I'm looking for some convincing or anyone's opinion on why my truck is good enough I guess. Or in other words, why do you prefer your RWD Titans? or why do you prefer your AWD Titans? Is AWD necessary or is it only for guys who go off roading or mudding? Pretty much I'm just looking for reasons to keep my 08', clean it up and upgrade it without feeling inferior with the newer nicer titans out there. Am I just being paranoid not having AWD? Am I being impractical? I have the tow package I believe (I have the tow mode button) Opinions?

I say go for it... I really wished I had a 2012 or 2014 Titan 4WD but not pro4x because I'll add mods that'll easier to buy without extra money from the 4x.. as of the 4WD part, I've had to use mine a few times but that's because I was going places I didn't need to be but made it out rather easily. Most of the time in 2WD but 4wd is pretty handy. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks! That's kind of what I was thinking. In AZ we have flash floods and many washes everywhere (not that you're supposed to drive through a wash when it's flooded) but I always thought I may need 4WD if I had to drive through a muddy area after a storm. Then again I thought maybe I'm just being paranoid or making excuses to get the Pro4x

Here in Colorado, we get way more days when snow, rain or other conditions could make 4WD a necessity. Still, I'm sticking with my '08 KC LWB 4X2. Why? Towing capacity is its primary duty and I need everything I can get to haul my 24' enclosed racecar trailer and Z racecar around.

Having tried the new Titan HD and both the Cummins and VK56VD options, there's little doubt the later model trucks would do the job better- either with or without 4WD. But then there's the initial cost difference and the satisfaction of seeing how well the towing-specific upgrades function on a truck that's been refreshed and it makes me like my '08 all over again!

Awesome! It's good to hear a 2WD owner who still prefers/uses his truck in those weather conditions. On top of trailoring your Z, makes me think it is possible to do the same with my S13 or G35! So I'm guessing you have no problem getting around in those weather conditions with 2WD? Obviously a 4WD isn't exactly "necessary"? I'm C.E. in the Air Force, and us Dirt Boyz are all about trucks thus being in the construction career field, and all of them say "I'll never get a 2WD again". Lol

Depends on if you're regularly going offroad/in need of the 4WD. You could always get a TruTrac for the limited slip. In 8 years I've used my 4WD enough times to make me glad I had it, but I could/would have avoided those situations if I was in a 2WD truck.

I only use my 4wd when it snows so not sure if I would ever use it in your neck of the woods. Like others have said good tires and a limited slip does wonders.

if you ever question if you need 4wd, then you don't. Personally, I will not own a 2wd, but then, I'm in the dirt, on the trails, hitting the lakes, and have been an avid off-roader since I was 15 and learned to drive. Not to mention that I'm on the other side of Colorado, where we don't get AS much snow as the flatlanders (In the valleys anyway) but we also don't have anything resembling level ground for any real distance.

Case in point: Logan's Wash
This road climbs 2700' in 6 miles and is rutted clay over shale. For the most of the time i've owned my Titan, this road and similar have been part of my daily commute, not even recreation

I never question if a 2wd would work for me, it wouldn't. You, do doubt you need 4x4, so in a nutshell, you don't need it. However, there's nothing wrong with getting it if you want it. After all, this sort of stuff is a blast:

So I'm out to convince you that you don't need a 4x4, but if you want one, why not?

and BTW, the tow button doesn't mean you have the tow package. I have a tow button and the 2.94 gears, the tow package has 3.36 gears... they tow pretty good anyway. I'm also on board with getting a base 4x4 and building it if you want to go that route. The only thing really better about the pro-4x is the skid plate (and iirc, they DO have the lower gearing). When you're done, it won't be an out of the box truck, it will be YOURS and unique. You'll also learn a ton along the way. It's your life and your ride, only you can make the decision.

Lots of good info! I appreciate it.

Depends on what you consider top of the line, but I was debating between a 13 Pro-4x and a 13 SL. I like the Pro-4x graphics, but the SL has dual climate control and I don't really off road out side of wandering out into a field, so didn't the skid plates or rear axle locker. So I went SL because it is the higher line truck and I also got a good deal on it.

Although we have difficult weather conditions here in Colorado, I don't usually take the Titan out in them unless it's necessary. Trailering a 9K enclosed trailer is no walk in the park, and my race season is usually in the summer months. Have I been on the highways in snow? Yes, but I'd rather not be with only 2WD and no real LSD. It takes skill, balls and good judgement to know when to slow down or even pull over at times. But I've towed from one end of the country to the other and the Titan has done just fine.

Agreed. Yeah I wouldn't be doing any off roading, so I guess the 2WD is fine until a 13'-15' Pro4x is more in my price range. I just wanted to hear some opinions between the different drive options of the Titans. Everyone i know who has a truck of course bashes 2WD yet manufacturers obviously still make them so they can't be that useless lol. I appreciate the facts and opinions guys. I'm new to the whole truck thing and know nothing about them really. I've always owned Nissan coupes but got a Titan for our family/safer daily driver since I have a toddler.

Look into getting a Trutrac rear end. Tons of threads on here about them. Turns your 1WD truck into a real 2WD truck with the limited slip. Makes it a lot better in terms of bad conditions where you might want 4WD.

Will do! Good to know also. That adds a little more security to the whole "just in case" scenario
