Hey is there any interest in a in bed storage box that mounts via util track. Im considering making these and selling them.

Offers secure waterproof storage for recovery gear, tools, camping gear or whatever you want but doesnt take up half the bed like a bed tool box would.

Im doin some R&D with it but future thoughts are, different sized boxes, multiple mounting positions, in box led lighting, etc. Picture on current setup attached, ill post some more later on.

Im still trying to coming up with an affordable price.

What are your thoughts / interests?

Update. Finished for the day, put all my misc tools, recovery gear, jack, etc in the box and went for a hard ride. Everything stayed in it place fine.

At this point im thinking of making the box able to mount in differant locations in the bed, adding a clip on the outside for a folding shovel and clips on the inside for a mag light and a fire extinguisher.

If there are interests then i can get a few of these made and shipped out. As it stands now, I am thinking around $75 + shipping, nothing is set in stone yet though. That may change if i include the fold up shovel and fire extinguisher. That will be an add-on i think though.

The pic attached shows my stuff in there.

The dimensions of the box is 31" x 17" x 13" it is 23 gallons. I can make you three if you want. I need someone for a test run! I have to expand on my mounting system so you can mount in several locations. You can pm me if you are wanting this box system.

This box isnt wide enought to fit bar to bar =/ the hole idea behind it is to still be able to use my bed for my dirtbikes and other stuff. 23 gal seems to hold all my crap okay.

Today im adding a flashlight and fire extinguisher mount. Im thinkin about adding a couple fold up shovels as well.

A aircompressor is something i want to make a bracket for so i can take it in and out easily for wheelin trips.

Im considering moving this to the buy/sell thread soon. It seems like im getting some pretty good interests.

The reason i didnt make it out of steel is because the cost would go way up for the box and the shipping. Im still working on a better way to mount it to the util tracks. Im probably going to make a frame for the bottom of the box, im not sure yet. I made a mount for my mag-lite. Its starting to come together. I should have a final product by next week.

I am working on a couple steel crates for fluids like anti-freeze, water, gas, oil, etc that will slide on the tracks.

I am confused.. you fabricate the boxes?
How do you make them ride on the rail?

The Box itself looks like a regular bin, although the idea is great and I am very interested.

Just help me out to understand the design aspect, mounting and all.

I do not fabricate these boxes, i buy them and fit them to work with the util rails. This keeps the price low. If you look at a across bed tool box they are very big and costly. This box is compact ( 23 gal ) and it would run around $75.

This will slide on the rails if you loosen bolts and pull it. There really isnt anything available to make it slide easily on the rails that ive found.

I mounted it in the position that i did to save space in my bed. It can be mounted in other ways. Im currently looking for a slightly wider box so it can be also mounted across the two rails.

Thats almost exactly what i did but i used uni strut bolts they fit into the util tracks. I have a peice of aluminum flat bar i drilled three holes in and in the box. Bolted that to the util tracks then sealed around it.
