I have an '08 CC LWB with 20k+ miles on it. After about 15-18k miles I started to notice an intermittent squeal coming from the engine, normally only at idle when it was at normal op. temp. In the beginning the squeal wasn't terribly loud. However, now it occurs after the engine has had time to warm up, happens at idle and while cruising but doesn't appear to be audible when under acceleration. And now the squeal is unbearably loud. I mean it is so bad that when I pull into my neighborhood I am embarrassed if my neighbors are outdoors.

I took it to my local dealer and they said that the noise is coming from the intake manifold and blamed it on the intake now being made of plastic and said that "that's just how the plastic intakes are". They said that there is nothing they can do about it. As is typical, they said that they were going to call Nissan and see if they had anything for the dealer to try, but I have not heard back from them in over 10 days.

So I am hoping that someone here has experienced this same sort of thing before and knows the root cause.

For what it is worth, I *know* it is not the belt or the breaks, although the sound is similar to either (perhaps higher pitched than a typical belt squeal though). And one other note - it is odd but if I am coasting at say 30 MPH I will hear the sound, but if I hit a small bump it causes the sound to disappear momentarily. I know, very strange.

Thanks in advance.

I have the 2008 king cab lwb with the same problem. Its a loud whining noise. Took it to the dealer guess what, it would not make the noise while they drove it. They replaced the belt and idler pulley but it is still making the same noise. It does it like you said yours does. Have you found out the problem yet. Getting ready to take mine back to the dealer and let them drive it for a couple days.

I never would have guessed that one! I was thinking tension changing on the tensioner as you hit a bump, and the bearing being worn. Good solution, glad you updated!

Im cant believe they found it. They were told by some factory rep to check for a cracked manifold, he did and didnt find any problems, he has three hours wrote up for the repair, plus the extra time it took to do the recall on the fuel sending unit. Even washed the truck for me. Cant complain. Have a good day all.
