Asking a dealer to come down 5,000 below invoice after the rebate isn't a fair deal to the people in the industry trying to earn a living in my opinion. I always go for the best deal I can find too, but at the same time I always let the dealership keep their hold back. That's what pays salaries, advertisement and keeps there lights on so they can stay in business. No I'm not in the business but I was at one time many years ago. If I were you I would offer them invoice minus the rebate and be happy. That's a fair deal for both parties. Do your home work on your trade in value and don't take less than fair trade in market value. You'll have to do some research to figure out how much that is. You can look at auctions and take your car to multiple dealers for appraisals. CARMAX will give you a good of what your trade in is worth if you have them appraise it for you. They buy cars from folks all the time. Good luck.
Put it this way.. I went to the local Dodge dealership to look at a 09 Ram 1500 fully loaded laramie. Sticker with options came out to $46,xxx. They were going to let me walk out the door for a little over $34k, tax and title included. That was with a repo on my credit (apparently ex hasn't paid sense november, 08) but with $18k down. I worked the angle of just a couple grand down, out the door would have been near 38k.. so really in my case, downpayment really says a lot, but then again it depends on their overall markup profit. 10k I would say is a good offer..you can always work up from that.
you offer 10k off..they say they can do 6k off. You say 8k off, they say 7k off..you take it, or leave it.
Another option is (if good credit or big downpayment) work them down to the lowest price possible. Walk out if needed..good way is durring the test drive, ask how their sales are in a casual convo. If sales are slackin big..if you walk out when talking numbers, odds are they'll call you back and take a grand or two off their offer, just to put you in a truck. But then after you get the number you want, THEN throw in "oh I decided I think I will trade my truck in on this on"..and don't let them back off their numbers prior..this helps a lot.
Good luck!! :hi:
Depending on my downpayment size, in my case, was the deciding factor of how much they were willing to give me off the sticker price. So they were going to give you $12k off sticker or $8k? I'm confused. Is that the going rate on the new Dodges now? Just imagine resale value if Chrysler goes under. You will have to include a
ral: if you ever want to sell a Dodge. I do like the 09 models, much needed improvement over the previous models. Still not too high on the Hemi. Not impressed with the overrated hp numbers that Chrysler always throws out.
I agree with Joe on this one, I really dont think you are going to get 10K under invoice OTD. I also live in the NE and I bought my truck last March before gas was up there in price. I paid 7K under sticker before taxes. It was invoice - $5000 rebate.Depending on where you are, $10k off isn't easy to get now like it was last year. Most dealers don't have the Titan inventory they used to. Nissan dialed WAAY back on production. Here in NY, you wouldn't get anywhere near that off a new Titan...even at the height of gas prices you were lucky to get $7k off.
I never said anything in my post that the dealer won't try and get an extra buck off you any way they can. This doesn't excuse you from being un reasonable when dealing with a sales manager. If you know how to get a good deal then you'll get one.I can assure you that most, if not all, dealers will take your hard earned money on any kind of deal weather it be on a new vehicle, used or on a trade in without a single thought of your well being. Regardless of how bad the dealer or salesman make you feel, they will not do the deal unless they are making money. Dealerships get kick backs from the manufacture based on several different criteria (#of vehicles sold, amount of profit on that particular vehicle, etc) Salesman will make their commission regardless of the price you paid. I would be shocked to find a single salesman that would tell you that you could get more off the vehicle than what you are paying. If you go in telling them you want a Titan and you will pay the sticker price, do you think they will tell you about rebates? Again, I would be shocked if so. Why do you think car dealerships and salesman have the reputation they do? I am not saying all are crooks, but none will hesitate to make an extra buck off anyone if given the chance.
I like how you make it sound like I'm willing to pay full sticker price....Well its good to see your willing to pay their bills. i work too hard for my money to give them one more dollar than i can screw them out of. its the profession they chose, my job is not paying their bills.
Well you should be proud then. Heck maybe that dealership that lost 10K on a "screwed up" trade in will go out of business and all those employee's will end up looking for new jobs and collecting un employment. Then everyone wins.naive? no. and like you said, they make money. id say play their game and go as low as possible, and play between other dealerships as well. dont settle till your 100% happy. your the one thats gonna be driving the truck.
^^^and the car i traded my titan for lost the dealership over $10,000 on a screwed up trade!! cant beat that
