Now 10k under msrp may be a better bet. But you better have spotless credit with a 750+ beacon score and your own financing or a substantial amount to put down.

I was just about at 10k below invoice OTD in August when gas was $4/gallon. The funny business they play with the numbers makes it hard to tell. I had a perfect storm situation though. They had a TON of trucks on the lot, some had been sitting for nearly a year, they particularly had a lot of XE's. I didn't need a new truck at the time plus I had money down and impecible credit.
So that being said, if they have a lot of trucks on the lot and need to make quota... it may be possible but likely closer to 10k below MSRP.

$10k below invoice? In reality, that would be $5k back less the rebate, which I did a few times during the stairstep program at the end of the year. Oh, and all the deals I did like that were PLUS all official taxes and fees, not including.

I bought my 07 in July 2007, when the 2008 models came out, for $10k off msrp. Last summer they were offering $15k off msrp for a loaded LE 08 or 08.5. That was when gas was high. I would have jumped on the deal if I were not to get raped on the trade in.

Depending on where you are, $10k off isn't easy to get now like it was last year. Most dealers don't have the Titan inventory they used to. Nissan dialed WAAY back on production. Here in NY, you wouldn't get anywhere near that off a new Titan...even at the height of gas prices you were lucky to get $7k off.

$10K under invoice, IMO, would almost be impossible to negotiate unless the dealer is going to steal your trade-in.

Heck, I got the supplier pricing on my old 2006 Titan KC SE 4x4 and it amounted to 4.3% under invoice, plus rebates, but then you tack on the delivery fee, taxes, tags, and title fees.

At the time, it saved me about $6500 off MSRP, which I thought was a good deal considering I didn't have to negotiate at all. Since I could get this same price at any other dealership, I just went with the one that gave me the most $$$ for my trade-in.

Now, rewind back to last summer and one of the local Nissan dealerships in my area was offering 20%, 30%, and 40% off MSRP on all Titans on their lot.

However, they have less than 5 Titans on the lot at any given time now, so the deals won't even be close as to what they were just a few months ago.

I would say that if you can even get $10K off MSRP, that would be a good deal. Ever wonder why our Titans have such low re-sale values now? :eyebrow: At least it's not as bad as the Dodge Ram pickups.

I just had a quote about a month ago on an 08 4x4 loaded (top-of-the-line whatever it's called) for $27K and some change. This was a $40k truck.
Shop around and $10k will be chump change. If I wasn't so freaking upside down in my current truck, I would have jumped all over that!

Asking a dealer to come down 5,000 below invoice after the rebate isn't a fair deal to the people in the industry trying to earn a living in my opinion. I always go for the best deal I can find too, but at the same time I always let the dealership keep their hold back. That's what pays salaries, advertisement and keeps there lights on so they can stay in business. No I'm not in the business but I was at one time many years ago. If I were you I would offer them invoice minus the rebate and be happy. That's a fair deal for both parties. Do your home work on your trade in value and don't take less than fair trade in market value. You'll have to do some research to figure out how much that is. You can look at auctions and take your car to multiple dealers for appraisals. CARMAX will give you a good of what your trade in is worth if you have them appraise it for you. They buy cars from folks all the time. Good luck.

I can assure you that most, if not all, dealers will take your hard earned money on any kind of deal weather it be on a new vehicle, used or on a trade in without a single thought of your well being. Regardless of how bad the dealer or salesman make you feel, they will not do the deal unless they are making money. Dealerships get kick backs from the manufacture based on several different criteria (#of vehicles sold, amount of profit on that particular vehicle, etc) Salesman will make their commission regardless of the price you paid. I would be shocked to find a single salesman that would tell you that you could get more off the vehicle than what you are paying. If you go in telling them you want a Titan and you will pay the sticker price, do you think they will tell you about rebates? Again, I would be shocked if so. Why do you think car dealerships and salesman have the reputation they do? I am not saying all are crooks, but none will hesitate to make an extra buck off anyone if given the chance.

Put it this way.. I went to the local Dodge dealership to look at a 09 Ram 1500 fully loaded laramie. Sticker with options came out to $46,xxx. They were going to let me walk out the door for a little over $34k, tax and title included. That was with a repo on my credit (apparently ex hasn't paid sense november, 08) but with $18k down. I worked the angle of just a couple grand down, out the door would have been near 38k.. so really in my case, downpayment really says a lot, but then again it depends on their overall markup profit. 10k I would say is a good offer..you can always work up from that.

you offer 10k off..they say they can do 6k off. You say 8k off, they say 7k off..you take it, or leave it.

Another option is (if good credit or big downpayment) work them down to the lowest price possible. Walk out if needed..good way is durring the test drive, ask how their sales are in a casual convo. If sales are slackin big..if you walk out when talking numbers, odds are they'll call you back and take a grand or two off their offer, just to put you in a truck. But then after you get the number you want, THEN throw in "oh I decided I think I will trade my truck in on this on"..and don't let them back off their numbers prior..this helps a lot. :)

Good luck!! :hi:

So they were going to give you $12k off sticker or $8k? I'm confused:confused:. Is that the going rate on the new Dodges now? Just imagine resale value if Chrysler goes under. You will have to include a :eek:ral: if you ever want to sell a Dodge. I do like the 09 models, much needed improvement over the previous models. Still not too high on the Hemi. Not impressed with the overrated hp numbers that Chrysler always throws out.

Depending on my downpayment size, in my case, was the deciding factor of how much they were willing to give me off the sticker price.

And yeah I thought about if chrysler was to go under..but then I looked at it like, I hihgly doubt the company will totally go under. Yeah it's possible..but resale value can't be much worse than what the Titan is facing. And at the end of the day.. as long as you still have parts and good mechanical skills, ontop of planning on keeping your car or truck for more than 10 years, that's always a plus. Hell I'd still keep my Titan if it wasn't for my long list of problems. Out of all the issues I've had in 70k miles, in 4 years, that's pretty bad. If I had a very very small list, I wouldn't be looking for a new truck now :ftard:

And yeah they do stretch their numbesr for sure..anything for a sale I guess lol :bangit:

I agree with Joe on this one, I really dont think you are going to get 10K under invoice OTD. I also live in the NE and I bought my truck last March before gas was up there in price. I paid 7K under sticker before taxes. It was invoice - $5000 rebate.

I never said anything in my post that the dealer won't try and get an extra buck off you any way they can. This doesn't excuse you from being un reasonable when dealing with a sales manager. If you know how to get a good deal then you'll get one.

I haven't paid a dime over invoice on any car I've purchased ever, but I won't waste my time talking to a salesman either. I always go right to the sales managaer tell him what I want and after he finds it I offer invoice not including rebates. If they don't want to deal that way I go some where else. When I said being reasonable to the dealer I meant that you should let them keep their hold back. Obviously if you don't know what you are doing they will try and get as much money from you as they can. Regardless of the economy and the market an invoice deal with an additional rebate tacked on is a good fair deal. As I've said to the OP do your home work on your trade in value so they don't "steal" it.

To the OP.... I was assuming you meant 10K off of invoice. I'm assuming that you know that the sticker price is MSRP and that the invoice is usually much less depending on the make and model, option's etc... If you were to go in to a Nissan dealership or any dealership for that matter and ask to see the invoice and offer 10K below it out the door you would be paying 24K for a $40,000 dollar truck (just an example). No dealership is going to accept an offer like that (unless there's a 10K rebate maybe).

Here's the math.

$40K sticker
Invoice around 36K
Subtract your 10K = 26K

Tax, tags other fee's = 2,000 (approximate)

Did you mean 10K below sticker? This is probably achievable.

Well its good to see your willing to pay their bills. i work too hard for my money to give them one more dollar than i can screw them out of. its the profession they chose, my job is not paying their bills.
I like how you make it sound like I'm willing to pay full sticker price....

Paying invoice minus incentives and rebates is hardly making them rich. By the way; if you buy a car your paying their bills and keeping their lights on. If you think that your dealership is losing money selling you cars than you're pretty naive.

The original OP asked if 10K below INVOICE was a fair offer to make not MSRP but invoice. Even with the current 5K rebate 10K below invoice is an absurd expectation. Unless of course they steal the trade in which dealers do all the time so people like you won't think their paying to keep the dealerships lights on.

Like I said I was in the business many, many years ago. If after paying invoice you subtract any rebates offered you're not making the dealership rich and you are getting a fair deal.

10K off of MSRP is probably do able depending on which model the OP is looking at. The more options there are the more of a mark up there is over invoice.

I can't say it never happens, but I'd bet MOST claiming they got 10k or more off sticker probably had trade-ins they'll swear they got good deals on when in reality they got bent over the managers desk without the courtesy of a reach around! Dealers will take your money as soon as look atcha. Look at Adamdude04 for instance (sorry to use you as my example..lol). Why would you fall for the "we'll give you more off sticker if you put more of a downpayment". Corky from Life Goes On would'nt fall for that old gag! They always come out ahead and know how to present it or make it look good on paper.

Well you should be proud then. Heck maybe that dealership that lost 10K on a "screwed up" trade in will go out of business and all those employee's will end up looking for new jobs and collecting un employment. Then everyone wins.

I won't speak for you or for anyone else but for me, I would never intentionally screw a a business out of making a potential profit. They don't make money they don't stay in business and we all pay for that. Just a personal matter of integrity I guess. This doesn't in any way though imply that I don't I or won't shop around, do my home work or go after the lowest price. (The lowest price is invoice and fair market value for a trade in if you have one). Fair trade in value is the ACV (actual cash value) for the car you're trading in.
