Is bigger better?

My SE came with 18 inch rims. I am looking at changing out rims and tires in the very near future. What I have noticed around the forums is people seem to stick with the factory size or move up in rim diameter. These look great but the big rims, and tires to fit them, can be a little pricey. I am thinking about moving down in rim size. My plans were for a 17 inch rim and a tire with a similar diameter to what I have now (33) but wider. My PRG leveling kit should be installed shortly, allowing the wider tire which I think just fits with the lines of the Titan better. Going with a smaller rim and similar diamter tire will save me some cash and I shouldn't see any gear or speedometer issues. Since I don't see alot of people moving in the same direction I am wondering if I am missing something. Are there any other advantages to increasing the rim diameter that I have missed? Are there any disadvantages to moving down? Thanks for your help and input. By the way, I am not sensative so if you think my plans are retarded feel free to sound off.

I think you have to stay with an 18 inch or larger due to brake caliper clearance. on the 04-06 you can go as small as 17. I'm prety sure that Nissan changed the smallest wheel to 18 inch on the 07 and newer.
I'll have to check again to make sure but tire rack listed 17 inch sizes for the 07 also. I have been warned to be careful with rim choice as bake clearance can be an issue with some rims.

That's correct and that also coincided with the larger diameter rotors as well.
the 07 and 08 xe come with 17" wheels so you should be fine with downsizing
Which is it ???????
08 does have 18" rims. My 17" Aftermarket Rims barely cleared my brakes on my 06.

First question: Larger rims weigh more than the lower sidewall tires that go with them. So, apples to apples, larger rims are heavier and take more power/fuel to move. Clearance for brakes or brake upgrade is better, beyond that, it is all about "style".
You don't want to go bigger, that's heading in the Disco direction....Your 07' can handle 17" wheels, but if they're not factory wheels you need to check to make sure they will clear the brake calipers, a few have had clearence issues...

Glad to see you stay away from the Wagon Wheel Dark Side young TitanWalker...
07 4x4 comes with 18'' wheels
07 4x4 with off road package comes with 17'' wheels
