Just ran my first full tank (well 21 gallons worth) through mine since I bought it. I got 7.89 MPG. My problem is that I have a bad habit of starting it to warm it up before I load my newborn son. The idle time kills my MPG. I can't wait until temps get back in the 30's or 40's so I can get a more acurate MPG.

Join the crowd.
My truck gets about 12-13 mpg.
On the highway it is not much better.

I did not buy mine for the gas mileage though..

Chances are you are filling up when the light is coming on? Its a 2004, meaning the fuel sending unit is most likely in need of replacement. When my light comes on I still have about 7-8 gallons of gas left.

Mines an 04' with the BT gears, lifted and on 35s and the best I've ever got on MPGs was 14.5, this was after a full fluid change in the truck, running the gas tune on my programmer and driving moderately sane.

I'm in the same boat, but not as bad mileage wise. I've owned my 2004 for about 4 months. 4x4 KC.

I average anywhere from 13-14 mpg and I thought something was wrong with mine too. I'm getting approximately 250 miles per tank before my truck reads empty. Hear's the good part. Lia Nissan of Enfield, CT says, there's no recall on the fuel sending unit for 2004. So if you want to get it fixed, I guess you better expect to pay out of your pocket.

I don't know who you are.. .whoever originated this... but here's my latest...

- I got all the recalls done. ECU and AC recalls needed to be done.
- Installed a K&N Air Filter Day 1... so I have no comparison of stock.
- I have a leaking drivers side axle seal. Parts are on the counter, but I'm dealing with 1800nissan1 to determine if they'll help pay for a new axle shaft assembly
- I just ordered 08.5+ shackles. Mine are rusty/flakey, but I'm not waiting until they punch through the bed.

Near future plans...
- PRG front lift.
- Rear struts are rusty as hell and look like ****, but handle ok... probably replace them soon.
- Tires are worn to hell... rims are getting powdercoated and hopefully putting on larger tires... 285's I think... I'm learning.

Took a trip to visit family in Iowa a couple weeks ago. I got 14.3 MPG there and 15.5 MPG on the way back running 75-80 most of the way. Trip there included long idle times before we left and everytime we stopped to change my sons diaper, so that affected the MPGs a lot.

Mine is a 2wd w/ 2.94 which makes a difference, but i average 16mpg w/ 89 octane and 15mpg w/ 87 (lot of traffic). i live on the coast though so i only run 89octane now. i do have exhaust and intake which im sure helps and i dont have a lead foot. try calculating it for yourself if you havent already. for the recall, just call the dealer and have them run your vin# to see if they have all been done...only takes a couple min

Please don't take this the wrong way but it did happen with me. And assuming that your problem isn't any of those previously posted. First of all I bought my T used and didn't get an owner's manual. (I say this so that I don't appear to be a complete imbecile) I discovered by reading this forum that you can shift to drive (the 4/D position) and not be in overdrive unless the shifter is in that slot and pushed to the right. And I am making the assumption that you have the console and not a column shifter?? I too wondered why my mileage suddenly dropped and found out that this was the problem. It also does the same thing in the 1/2 slot.

Problem...Ethanol in the gas at the stations these days. Ethanol decreases gas mileage by 2-3 mpg. I fill up at non-ethanol gas stations (there are 3 in the town I live in) and achieve 17-19 mpg on the highway on a consistent basis and 12-14 around town.
