Just got my new King front shocks from Downsouth Motorsports in San Diego. Marco was really helpful and was able to hook me up for $1450 total. I picked them up at the shop, so the price was a little lower. Downsouth is the King distributor for San Diego. They had a serious workshop in there with all you need to rebuild or repair King shocks.

Here are some pictures of them in the box and packaging. I will post more photos on Saturday when my buddy and I install them.

You are right. I looked at the PRG UCA and SAW LT combo for a while because the price is similar. I just like the look of the external reservoirs.

It seems like there are some die hard SAW fans out there. No, I didn't spend $750 on those parts (you forgot mounting brackets) because the SAW shocks and the King shocks are not the same. I know the valving from PRG is custom, but Downsouth offered to revalve them for free once within the year if I want and also to perform one service on them within the first year IIRC.

Haven't the SAW shock bodies been rusting or defective lately?

I paid $1000 for my 10" external res Radflos that I'm running with my PRG MT kit. SAW did have some issues a few years ago with the finish on there shock bodies but the issue has been taken care of. The main thing with Gregs valving is that it is Titan specific. He also drives a Titan so would be willing to bet that his shocks ride better than anything else out for a Titan. The Kings are really nice and definitely top of the line but I don't think they are any better than the other brands when set up properly. If I were you I would have Greg valve them.

Check out this photo. I have the CST 4" spindle lift so far so hopefully these will work well with it.

Can't decide to use the brackets or mount to the bumper support bracket. Anyone got any photos of external reservoirs? These provide 2"-3.5" of front lift so I will have them set at 2".

The front will be at 6" total and the rear will have a 1" PRG rear block so it will have a nice Prerunner rake to it.

Gotta save up for some rear end work. Saw the Giant Suspension website today for the first time and was very impressed.

yea... if all you have for the front is the 2.5 c/o oem replacements then the spring under will be WAY too much for the front. usually its the other way around haha.. back can't keep up with the front

Got everything installed with no problems. We only had to unbolt to old shocks and swap in the new ones. We tq'd the top bolts to 22 and the botton shock bolt to 100 ft lbs. The stickers had to be peeled, canisters cleaned with goo gone and new stickers were applied because the stickers were placed a little off so they wouldn't have shown when installed. Ride was way smoother than the 5100 + 08+ 4x4 Spring Combo which was what was in there.

Here's a shot of the 5100 and 08+ 4x4 Spring before the install began...no sway bar needed.

They are so tiny! But it looks good. Sits pretty high for spindles and just those. Quick question, did you flip your tie rod ends? I was told to do this, but then I was also told that it doesn't matter..It looks like you did, that's why I ask.

#19 ·
Yes, we did swap the tie rod ends. This was part of the instructions from CST. It is important to get aligned after that because swapping them will change the alignment. You can see the spray paint on my tires still from the aligment shop. Had to go to TrueLine in Kearny Mesa because the wheels were so wide (325/60/18s). Gonna lift the back a little next weekend. :)

Yes, you folks were correct about the rear kit being too much. Gonna get the Camburg kit one day if the funds are there and get the rear set up from Giant.

Dam, thanks man. I bought my cst spindles used so I didn't have those directions. I've ran it for way over a year no problems, but I guess I will switch them now that I am getting problems.

This is info from the KingShocks.com website:
Nissan Kingshocks

Front Coilovers:
Extended Length 16.870in
Compressed Length 12.563in

16.870-12.563 = 4.307 in when set at 0" lift I assume. They shocks can be adjusted so they give 2-3.5" lift, so increasing preload probably reduces the stroke length. Sound about right?

How much stroke length do the other shocks offer?

#23 ·
Well the stroke length is the length of the shaft so it won't matter how much preload you have on them it will stay the same. It just sits in a different part of the stroke. I'm sure the PRG OEM replacements are about same stroke. The SAW's that I ran with my bracket lift were a 6 or so inch stroke.

Two things I forgot to mention:

The brackets that hold the external reservoirs were a little tricky to install. The bolt that holds the bracket to the frame was tricky to place and tighten. My friend used a piece of duct tape and stuck it to the back of the nut, then slid the nut/tape combo down into the gap in the frame where he could thread it onto the bolt. If it were dropped, it would have been a major pain to fish out of there.
Then to tighten it, we had to open the hood and wedge a flat head screw driver in between this nut and the frame to be able to tighten the bolt. It was a tricky install unless you have mini hands like that guy in the beer commercial.

Do you think the rear kings shocks would work with 2" of rear lift? The shaft length is supposedly 10". The king catalog says they provide 0" of lift but doesn't say anything about their range of capability.

#26 ·
They cost an arm and a nut. I think they are $750 new.

Right now the distance from the wheel to the fender in front is 11.5-11.75" and the rear is a little less than 8". There is about 3.5-3.75" of rake and it is too much. I want to raise the rear another inch at least to even it out a bit. What rear setup are you running Rhino?

Does the CBDB install weaken the frame at all when you cut away the piece of metal?

I'm running a Deaver C-30 pack with the top leaf removed and PRG shackles. I'm ordering 2.5" Radflo shocks tomorrow. I just sold my 2.0's this week. I'm not running any rear shocks at all right now and it sucks bad. lol

"I'm running a Deaver C-30 pack with the top leaf removed and PRG shackles. I'm ordering 2.5" Radflo shocks tomorrow."

Can you explain why you would remove the top leaf? Did you remove the top leaf from the stock springs? How much lift are you acheiving with this setup? Are you using the PRG shackles to lower the rear at all? What is your front to rear rake?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to get the rear set up correctly the first time.

They can be adjusted by 1.5" to make them longer. They weigh 31.5lbs each so they were super heavy when you picked them up. I need to raise the rear end of the T a bit so I can jack up these a bit more and get them dialed in. Otherwise, I am going to have way too much rake.
