So about 6 months ago, I went out to start my truck, and nothing. Long story short, I replaced the fuel pump and it ended up being the ECU that needed replacing. So here is my question: ever since the ECU was replaced, I've had a SES light for a large EVAP code and I've checked my gas cap a thousand times and its not that. My truck idles VERY rough when I come up to a stoplight or stop for any reason..Also, I can smell fuel whenever I walk behind the exhaust. I've been told it could be the EVAP canister or also the purge solenoid. Does anybody have input? Thanks in advance!

Did you happen to pull the code(s), I thought the DTC called out which valve was not working? IIRC the P443 is the evap canister purge valve. Very easy to change out this purge valve.

My code didn't clear after changing the valve. It ended running rich enough to foul my O2 sensors, then it really got bad.

My new purge valve didn't fix the problem the first time because I had an open wire in the harness in the area where it comes around the passenger side frame in front of the rear tire. Of course I didn't find this right away.

The rough idle took a while to manifest, because when the new valve didn't fix my problem right away, I just left it alone while all along the SES light was on (it was the dead of winter and bitter cold).

After some months, the seasons changed, and enough time had passed that the rough idle started. I also started to get an intermittent misfire (P300) and other DTCs (can't recall all, but some had to do with various O2 sensors) maybe coincidence.

So, after some tracing down, I found/fixed the open wire to the purge valve, then went through replacing the O2 sensors, and spark plugs. All codes are cleared, SES light is off, no more intermittent misfires, truck ran & idled great.

I hope any of this helps!
