LE 20" rims = expensive tires... HELP

610 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  AZPRO4X
So I just joined this week, and super glad I did. TONS of resources on here.. I bought an 08 cc lwb, with 21k miles over spring break. Grandpa owned, dealership only wanted $19K. I basically stole it lol
IT STILL HAS ORIGINAL TIRES.. Tread is super low, need new tires. I want ATs, but I'm looking at $185 each, for the cheapest. Anyone made the swap to 17s or 18s, still rolling with 33-35s? What is price difference, ride, performance?

Thanks!
Jay

So your goal would be 33"s or 35"s for 17" or 18" wheels, for less than $185 a tire? Good luck with that search.
I've had good luck with 35x12.50 17" BFG muds, and 315/70 17" BFG AT's. Good ride and lasted (but A LOT) more than $185 a tire.
My truck had Falken tires on it when I bought it and they are junk.
No go on the 17", they wont clear the calipers. IMO, 18" don't fill the wheel wells nicely but to each his own. Ck out Hankook ATM's. They have a pattern very close to a Michelin tire without the price.
have the same truck, been looking at the dynapros as well. Truck still has original goodyears and I hate them

$150-180 is a pretty good price for truck tires, but agree with everyone else that you won't find new 35s for that cheap. I paid 170 a piece for my Cooper AT3's. The tread looks pretty aggressive but they're not over the top. There's a guy in my town who has these on his tundra and they've got around 60k miles on them. They have a wide range of sizes but I imagine they don't go up to 33-35".

As others have said, $185 a tire is cheap. When you get into the E load range the price goes up. Tires I'm looking at are $300 each, Terra Grappler G2's 305/65/18.
Well that definitely helps in my decision. It'd be roughly the same price per tire if I was changing from my 20s to a smaller rim, cause I would still need a bigger tire to fill the wheel well, thus pricey tire. Thanks everyone for the help, and thanks aplyler820 for the suggestion on the AT3s, I like that tread pattern, and the thought of 60K miles... I'll definitely look at em! I might have to end up going with a highway tire for this first set.

No worries. These are great highway tires too, I got them put on right before a 600 mile trip and got 16.5 mpg.

That's not exactly correct, there is a fairly long list of 17's that fit.
