Leak inside Cab Issues - Wet carpet on both sides

Hey everyone,

I am pretty new here but I have been using this forum to fix other issues with my 05 Titan SE. My first leak was in fact the AC drain fix -> fixed it myself because of the postings here but I was still getting wet carpet on both the driver and passenger side now.

After the AC fix, I started to notice a river of water on the carpet during a rainstorm and traced it all the way to the back window (I have the slider). So thinking it was this I decided to take it to the dealer to confirm and within minutes they said it was the window seal and it needed to be replaced. That's fine and dandy but I don't want to replace the whole window because of a possible "bad seal" for a whopping 1k plus.. So I took it to a window shop and the guy applied sealant all around the window itself (to which he said if this doesn't fix it, it can't be the window seal). I got this idea from another thread on here so I gave it a shot before deciding to dump that much money.. but still to no avail I had water dripping in around the back window.

Now after that I decided to keep researching the threads and saw someone posting about the third brake light and the rivets on each side of the cab.. Brake light was dry and I sealed the rivets on the outside and inside the cab as well but again.. this did not stop the leak..

I watched a youtube video of a Titan owner who noticed cracked in his paint on the roof where those rivets are and sealed it there and I am hoping I have the same issue because now the top of my cab is full of grey and clear sealant.. but if this doesn't fix it does anyone have any suggestions? I love my Titan cept for the fact she has had multiple leaking issues since I bought her.. I am gonna check tomorrow to see if the silicone fixed it temporarily but I am out of ideas on how the water is getting in. Any ideas? I will try and post pictures tomorrow. Thanks!

Only a few trucks, and I mean two or three have reported split body seams at the back of the cab.
Osiris was one of them.

Thanks for the heads up Walrus but I have read his thread too and mine is a similar situation - just on the roof.. We had a blizzard up here in NE yesterday and I took it to the wash today to see if the silicone was holding.. sure enough, no new drips on the towels I laid down across my back window so I believe there are cracked seams on both sides of my cab right above those rivets.. I used clear silicone and one side has bubbles coming from the crack so I think I found it. I'm gonna keep it as is and apply more silicone and wait it out until summer and see if I can get it fixed then.. It might look like total crap since I used gray sealant at first but I'm satisfied that the leak is no more.... *knocks on wood* but I will keep posted on the status and make sure this is in fact my leak(s). Just sucks because other than the different leaks this Titan has been great (4wd came in handy more than once this winter). Thank you again!

Alrighty ladies and gents,

After another wash just to see what would happen, I found 2 little droplets on the back window! But where I placed clear silicone on the outside of the cab the bubbles turned into holes so I figure that is how they got in! So much better than the river I had a few weeks back! Just got back inside after applying another coat of clear silicone over the holes on both sides of the cab.. I really hope this is it and if it is I pray it holds till this summer and hopefully get it repaired! (and also avoid the salty roads to avoid more rust). But below are some photos (and I know the gray stuff everywhere is disgusting and disturbing but if it works for now it works! It's a temporary fix for now.. If anyone has anymore information they would like to share please do, thanks!
1) So this is "Big Bertha" the 05' Titan SE and this photo is when I purchased her back in SoCal:

2) I know its a bad photo but the red arrow is pointing to the black piece around the back window where water would drip from

3) Here is the start of the river

4) This is the river that flowed all the way to the front of the cab (wet drivers side and passenger side too after the A/C fix)

5) This is where my "cracked seam" is and also a before picture because the next one may make some people cringe a bit because of how nasty it looks now..

6) View discretion is advised  lol it's pretty bad right now but if it works it works! It may look bad but the two arrows are pointing at what was a visible crack and bubbles had formed.. I plan on fixing it professionally this summer but for now it'll do

7) This is where the water I viewed dripping from inside the cab on both sides (you can see I have been going silicone crazy to stop it) but the circled area is right underneath the crack in the above photo.

My truck has the exact same thing going on. I've narrowed down to the gutters on both sides. What's the best way to fix it? Without silicone lol. I'm under warranty still so I'm going to take it in and try to have them fix it but I really doubt they will. The dealership here is the worst I've ever been to

Hey Ckay1,

Yeah same issue and I have applied even more silicone but I am now to minor droplets coming in versus the river of water pouring in.. I laid down towels so it'll absorb any more water and plan to keep an eye on it and I intend to take it into a body shop once winter is over to get it professionally looked at.. The dealership out here turned me away the first time saying they would need to keep it for a few days and charge me for a rental.. I said to hell with that and they did the water test on my rear window ultimately saying it was the issue.. but I had an auto glass shop apply sealant all on the outer perimeter of my window so I am done with the dealer because it can't be after that.. You more than likely have a newer model than I do (I have an '05) but let me know if you hear anything about the issue because it sounds like we have the same problem! Good luck!

The rear sliding window is NOT the culprit I bet. The rear cabin wall is double walled and the rear window will drain inbetween the two walls. Leaking body seams unsealed from the factory and the cabin vent is likely the culprit at least with mine. The cabin vent will come loose and the bed has to be removed to replace it if Nissan does it. I fixed it myself with a caulking gun and 100% silicon along with the body seams from inside the cabin. The rear seats have to be removed and rear wall trim/carpet. Water will run down both sides of the cabin and soak the front carpet and cause mildew. This is a common occurance from what I have read. Notice the black water lines where water was coming in the seams on the back wall. Notice the water coming in under the cabin vent.... silicon the hell out of the cabin vent from inside the cabin and your fixed.

Mine ended up being the body seams in the gutters and the rivets were leaking also. I re did the seam sealer on the roof and painted it, seems to have fixed the leak so far. I'm still not happy about it at all. It's a 2013 and never been in an accident there no reason it should have cracks on the seams leaking. The dealer told me it was cosmetic, called nissan and they said the same ****. Worst customer service I've ever experienced.

Oh and they wanted $500 just to take the headliner down to look and see if the water was for sure coming from the cracks, not to fix anything, just for the hour it would take to pull the headliner lol.

Geez man I'm sorry about that lol what a scam.. I never really liked the dealers either to be honest.. and I believe mine is the same issue on both sides because looking closer at the paint in the gutters I am noticing more and more cracks etc.. I think I am gonna save up some cash for this summer and just get a new paint job.. Mine isn't the greatest but then again the truck is about 13 years old :)

--> Question though, did you apply silicone in the whole rain gutter itself? like from front to back?
I took the paint off just where the crack was cleaned it up cause there was a little bit of rust on the surface. and got some dynatron seam sealer and put it on there and repainted it with a bottle of touch up paint. Looks good can't even tell I did it besides the cracks being gone. Might try doing it yourself and saving some money. Cost me about 40 dollars, took about an hour and a half to do. With the age of your truck it could be that it's just the paint cracking and the rivets under those trim pieces are leaking to. Mine had about an 1/8 inch gap between them and the body that water could get through.

^^ Trying to save up some dough for this summer but I think I am gonna take in and get it professionally done (to get the seams fixed also) and check for rust on the inner roof in the cab too. The blizzards seem to have stopped so far and its bright and sunny outside so I am gonna take this chance to basically do what you did and apply more silicone through the whole gutter (I think the whole gutter is screwed). Is your truck still dry?
Right there yeah. Lol my rear window just started leaking now. Getting it pulled and re sealed Monday for 250. I'm starting to think the trunk came with a water fountain feature or something lol.
And BTW don't use silicone. Your paint shop will hate you for it. You can't paint it and it is extremely hard to get completely off so that you can. If you use something use paintable caulking. When you do take it in thats all they will do is strip the paint apply seam sealer and repainted it. That seam doesn't even come welded or anything from the factory. I took mine to a body shop and he actually recommended that I do it and save some money. It's not hard. If you take your time you won't screw it up. Plus mines lifted so even if I had you couldn't see it lol
I have been having the same problem but only the passenger side, it was only happening during rain storms and at highway speeds, so I pulled back the carpet and poor water down the windshield from the very top and found out it was the seal around the window, before it sounded like running water behind my dash, i surely hope that was the only problem, I will find out tomorrow when it rains. Good luck
I'm on my second Titan, and between the two of them I've had just about every issue you find on these forums. Anyway, I also had a drenched passenger front carpet and performed the A/C drain fix?no problems since then. Up here in the Pacific NW we get tons of rain, and I recently started noticing a mildewy smell again. I felt the passenger carpet and didn't notice any wetness, so I went and checked the driver side and there it was... After removing the back seats and taking out the carpet, I found water dripping through the seam exactly like in Nightowl's picture. I sealed it up and haven't had any issues since (fingers crossed).
