The basic question:
Since I have 08 4wd coils, should I be able to run a 1.5" spacer without contact?

I have stock struts still, truck detail in sig, and fyi, 2" (2.25) spacers had alot of contact sitting on the driveway, would not even allow droop. and that was after trimming the CB lip. but before everything had settled. which was about an 1" overnight. so I may have been okay and had only little contact? idk? 08 4wd coils gave me 3" of lift.

I don't want to go through installing and removing again. The bottom of the strut is such a hassle to get in and out. So should I stick with 1" or try 1.5"?

Thanks

The bottom strut bolt is easy to get out. Put a jack under the lower control arm to support it, loosen the top strut nuts just until the shock has some play but the nuts are still holding the shock up, then remove the lower bolt. You might have to lower the jack a little bit after loosening the top bolts to align the shock with the lower tabs again. But loosening the top nuts releases a lot of tension that's on the lower.

No telling exactly how much of a difference your 1", 1.5" or 2" spacer is going to differ as far as coil bucket contact. Likely, with the 4WD springs you'll have contact with all of them. I suggest you just spring for aftermarket upper control arms. You'll be happy you did.

thanks for the tip

are you not removing the spindle? or just not mentioning it in these steps?

No problem. I didn't mention it. But you only have to disconnect the upper control arm from the spindle.

And actually, if you purchase a high quality upper control arm you don't even have to do that. Because it will have enough droop to slip the shock out without disconnecting it.
