Hey Guys/Gals
I have been lurking here for a while reading up on the Titan.
I am in the market for a truck and it has been narrowed down to the Titan or Tundra. I want a truck to haul my bikes around (sportbikes)
I test drove the Titan a while back and liked it. When Nissan announced the new Frontier, I thought I would wait. Having now seen and sat in the new Frontier.....it's a little claustrophobic for my 6'2" height.
So it's Titan or Tundra at this point. (just can't get into the Ford/Chevy/GMC/etc)

I have to admit I was a little wary reading some about some of the "issues" the Titan seemed to be having but I realize that 2004 was the first year in production and new vehicles almost always have problems. According to a service guy I talked to recently the rotor warping was solved by a different caliper design and different pads? Can anyone confirm this?
Anyone know how many Titans were sold? If they sold 50,000 and 100 were "bad", that wouldn't be to bad of a ratio.
Also insurance.....good? bad? high/low?
I'm not in too much of a hurry and am willing to wait for a good deal.
Thanks

VT...read my '05 update just a few threads down from this one...

EDIT - here is the thread: http://www.titantalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19580

The '05 has not included different brakes (Same as the '04's) but this is the ONE and only issue so far with our '05.

Waiting on the real 'fix' for the brakes rumored for March/April.

Bottom line...we love it and that's why we bought the '05 when trading in the early build '04.

Welcome and don't let the negatives make a decision for you. Follow you gut feeling is probley the best thing I can say. I love my Titan and mine has been problem free. As for some info about sales, etc here is a couple good sites to check out for a wealth of info. :) http://www.nissannews.com/index.html and http://www.nissanhelp.com/ Also, my insurance actually went down for my 04 Titan from my 04 Frontier.

I myself have been a member of titantalk for a while and don't have a Titan yet, but because of my work lately I haven't had the time to get my new Titan. Still looking. I believe there was over 94,000 Titans made and I believe last month the sales were up to over 83,000 at that time.

My Dad has a Titan and he loves it. He has had only minor issues w/the door handle, getting replaced, and sun visor coming apart. His truck was one of the early build dates. I love driving it when he comes to visit me.

You figure that there is over 4700 Titantalk members and counting. That is a small percentage when it comes to the overall sales of the truck. Most of them have had little to no issues w/their Titan. Some others have been less forunate. I know I am going to get a Titan and have no worries of the bugs that may still be there. Every car, truck, etc. is going to a times have something happen to it. It was built by humans (human error) as many have said on Titantalk.

I have had insurance quotes for the Titan and for me (with a good driving record) the 04 Titan SE KC 4x4 is about $442 every 6 months. I don't think that is bad. The CC is $452, the LE KC 4x4 is $465, and the CC is $485. All of them quotes are w/a $500 deductible.

I hope I gave you a little help. We are like one big family at Titantalk. I myself have asked for the opinions of others on this forum and they have been great. I wouldn't worry about the Tundra too much. For the truck, the Titan is the best truck for the money, and everything else between, period. That's just my opinion. Good luck. :)

I have had mine since September and love it. No major issues, not even the brakes. 4000 miles and counting BTW...

I'm 26 and get the 'good driver' discount (boy do I have my agent fooled) and I pay $436 every 6 on mine here in Central Illinois. I might suggest looking at a Tundra board, too if you are concerned at all. They have just as many Technical Service Bulletins out for the Tundra as Nissan does for the Titan. Every vehicle will have its quirks.

Test drive them back to back and you'll be better able to decide there than you will on here. "blueflag: :haveredfl

Good luck!!

I traded a 2001 Toyota for my Titan, the Toyota was a darn good truck and I never had a problem with it. I just wanted somthing different with more power for towing. I haven't regretted the change. The Titan is a joy to drive.

Driven both numerous times (friend works for Lexus corporate), and I own the Titan. I don't know what the main difference is, maybe it's looks... maybe it's more power, was it price? Comfort? All of the above?

Titan beat it in every category in my eye's. New F150's do look pretty nice (and in a way, similar to a titan). Dodge has a color that I swear is the same as the smoke titan we own, and similar rear styling, not shabby looking - Chevy's always look the same to me, a little on the boring or "old man" side... But we didn't want what everyone else has had forever.

The Tundra feels more "car like" in the seating position and interior styling. Seat is lower, dash is lower, roof line is lower. Visibility is about the same. I don't want my truck to feel too car like for some reason (blandness?).

I think either way you go you will be happy....Don't let the brakes alone bother you becuase they do have plans for brake upgrade. Friend of mine has a 2002 Tundra that had the same problems....cost him $2500 to upgrade calipers, rotors, and pads...out of warrenty...guess he should have gotten the extended. Hope you decide on the Titan becuase we would like to see you around.

Thanks guys
I do get a family vibe from this board. Everyone here is pretty darn passionate about their Titans. I am a member of a motorcycle board that has the same feeling (a bit more dis-functional :) )

The intenet is great for stuff like this....questions...answers...opinions....reviews.

Problems can be solved in minutes (hopefully) these days thanks to fellow owners. What the hell did we do before the internet. :)

I'm gonna sound old... but HAM/CB radio, and later, BBS's? :) Definitely a vibe here. Subaru WRX owners don't always exude that vibe as much (too busy trying to make their's different and superior between themselves, and of course the world. DSM owners (talon/eclipse/laser) have the vibe, but it's waning and changing as the cars get older. Datsun Z car owners definitely have the vibe! even after all these years. - car clubs I belong or belonged to. Z was the only non-internet one for a long time :)

Welcome to the club! I only lurked here a bit, until I found some free time this week.

I also had a 2001 Tundra and now own an 04 Titan. Tundra also had rotor warping problems the first couple of years (not sure about now) and it's share of problems. The Tundra was a very good truck for me as is the Titan. Nissan and Toyota also seem to stand behind their products quite well. You really can't go wrong with either one. Man, the Titan's power advantage sure is addictive though :)

I've had my Titan since September and I love the truck. I haven't had any problems on it yet besides the radio reception problem but I hardly ever listen to the radio anyways. I have no regrets on buying what so ever. I'm going to use it also to haul my biek to the track. What do you ride anyways? I've got a CBR600F4i.

I have a couple of bikes, 82 Suzuki Katana, 98 Honda Superhawk, and an 04 Aprilia Mille R. The other bikes don't get ridden much since I got the Aprilia :)
Do you trailer the bike or do you put it in the bed? Any ramp recommendations?

I like the truck. The only other truck I would've gotten besides the Titan, would've been the Tundra. The more I see the Tundra, the more I like it. But only regret I have is not buying a more equipped model.
