I am currently looking at trading my '03 Dodge Ram on a titan. Generally I am looking for an '05 or newer, BUT the only one that i like in my area happens to be an '04. (its an SE, completley loaded with all power options, factory offroad, heavy tow, factory spray bedline, utility bed package, Rockford stereo. Basically alll the options. OH, its a king cab not crew (which is important I HATE the crews,)

It has the balance of the 100,000 miles 8 year warranty. The truck was bought new from the dealer its being sold at now, and was re-traded on a new titan. They have all the service records, it was serviced at that dealer.

SO, it sounds like it could be promising. But I am new to Titans and just want to know what to watch out for or looking into when checking out the truck this weekend? I heard the differential problems, but that should be covered under the warranty.

Anything else? any recalls I should check for? Are the '04's Notoriously bad or should it be ok (provided I check the service records)??

The price is 19,900 for the truck obviously I would like them to take a couple grand off and I should make about 4 g's on my trade. SO maybe I could finance it for 13 or 14Kish.

ANY insight is appreciated.

I would stay away from an 04 unless it was dirt cheap, I mean like $15,000 if it originally listed out at $32,000. You can pick up a new 08 SE 4x4 for around $23,000 right now.

Where are you located? How many miles are on the truck? That price is too high IMO.

Make sure it has the "brake fix"...

btw, how can you "hate" the crew cab? All that extra space a bad thing??

I have an 04 that has not been back to the dealer for any problem.
The first thing to consider is the same as any vehicle: was it abused?

I have an 04 SE 4x4 loaded with off road pkg, towing pkg the works. I have had NO problems with my truck.. I payed 17 drive out 40,000 miles and that included a 3 year 36,000 mile warrenty I bought. Truck was purchased from Car Max. I'm very happy.Maybe I got lucky? Is there something about the 04's I should be aware off??

wow. The price seemed a little high i was thinking they would probably go down to 17ish but It doesnt sound like its worth it?

Is it really true that you can get a 4x4 SE for 23,000 new? If thats the case I would definately go that route but I am seeing 06s and 07s used for over 25,000. I live in south western PA.

Oh and I dont like the crew cab because I hate the disproportional look. If there was an 8foot bed available I would be all for it.

With a short bed, it looks too much like a chevy avalanche or the same way those s10 crew cabs look, (only bigger obviously). I now own a dodge ram QC which i feel is perfectly proportioned and the King Cab titan is very similar, but just doesnt have 4 reg doors

Im not trying to offend ANYONE but when the trucks cab is nearly as long as the bed its not proportioned properly. If i wanted an SUV with a bed I would get a Honda Ridgeline.

Now I KNOW that a the titan is more of a truck than the ridgeline, BUT the proportions aren't THAT far off. You may disagree but my opinion, (and physical dimensions) are what matter.

If you have a crew cab thats fine, but I will NEVER own one w.o. an 8ft bed.

The only reason I said that it was king cab is because alot of the used ones around are crew cabs (with color schemes and options i prefer) and thats why ended up looking at the 04. It wasnt to offend people

nm I just looked at a few pics and It appears that the cab is actually LONGER than the bed. I need my truck for a truck, that means I need atleast a reg sized 6.5 foot bed.

That is the size of the king cab bed correct?

I put motocross bikes, quads, and sleds in it some times. (Tho I do have a 4x8 trailer I will be towing. but its very light)

Also, I forgot to add that the truck in question has 38,900 miles. A little more than I wanted (the trucks a little older than i wanted to) But like I said its the only one around that I like.

I just saw that new 08 KC SE 4x4 advertised at $22,990 last week, Chicago area dealer. The sticker on it was 29 something. That 23k is before TTL.

Brother in law just bought an 04 LE 4x4 with off road package, Big Tow, all the good stuff that comes with LE's, galaxy black, chrome trim all the goodies, for 22,000 not including his trade but all records came with it from the dealer, no rear change on it but I looked around and even with the 5 grand off I see no way to get to 23 K for a SE 4x4, maybe a KC but no CC for sure. Has original window sticker and the 04 LE went for almost 42 K on the sticker. We all know they don't get that much but still see no way to get to 23K for a 4x4.

Here you go guy, the actual ad, list is 33 for 23988. I was working off memory. Now here in the Chicago area, it is illegal to bait and switch. They will give you another vehicle with the same or similar MSRP sticker for the sale price. http://thomasnissanjoliet.com/Specials-New.aspx

Wow yeah thats def. a good deal. Unfortunately I live in PA where they are 30k+.

The dealer I am going to also has a few other used titans they are the biggest titan seller in the area. I will see how close they can get to this.

Im sure that the '04 I was thinking about would be much more than 33 brand new. It has a ton of options, factory big tow, utilitrac bed w. liner, 6 disc rockford system, power, offroad package, and i dont know what else off hand.

sfttail1990: Like your brother in laws, this titan was originally purchased there and has had all service done there w. records.

They also have an 07 kingcab its blizzard white tho, I am not a fan of white, and red trucks, they look like work trucks to me (i know nissans no as much)
I will be looking in to it, I would def rather have the newer truck with less miles but i will have to see if it has the options and stuff i want, they are asking 25 for it I believe.

Check the build date on the door sticker. There's no e-lock on the very early '04 factory offroad builds. Mine was a May '04 build and had one of the very first ones. Oh and check the rear differential level ... some were shipped from the factory with low fluid levels.

Ok will check the date, Thank you. Any other way to know for sure whether its got the locker? How does the E-lock work? I am assuming its a rear- locker? I got that part but how does it activate?

Nm think I figd it out. The rear locks automatically when your in 4lo?
