Cannot decide. They are similar in price ... high $40's out-the-door ... both crew cabs and similarly equipped tho the Ram has a sunroof and the Ram boxes (tool holders on the bed sides). Both have leather and 20" wheels. (Ram's leather is this freakish orange color - see pics)

I think the Ram looks quite a bit better (Titan mostly missed the mark with this new design), but I don't trust Chrysler products, and I've had really good luck with my '05 Titan KC which is at 155K miles and still going strong.

Here's the Ram I'm considering New 2017 Ram 1500 For Sale in Gainesville, FL | Near Alachua, High Springs, Starke & Ocala, FL | VIN:1C6RR7PT4HS711231

And the Titan https://www.gainesvillenissan.com/new-Gainesville-2017-Nissan-Titan-SL-1N6AA1E67HN550957

The 2 dealerships are half mile apart. I'm thinking about riding my bicycle back and forth between them, and the lowest one wins!

Thoughts? Tips? Suggestions? Opinions?

Thanks all ...

Actually, I have not sat down with either dealer to negotiate a bottom-line price yet, so upon looking at the MSRPs again, the Ram may be a few grand more.

The Nissan salesman emailed me $47,400 out-the-door. Can I do better than that? I don't see many of the new Titans around, so it doesn't seem like they're flying out the door.

And I sat down with a Ram salesman who jotted down a bunch of numbers, including $2K for my Titan in trade ($2K HAHA) which I told them I wasn't trading in anyway, which just confuses the numbers which of course they love to do. So I really have no idea what their first shot at an out-the-door price really is yet ... which again is prob what he wants.

What's your plans for the current Titan, especially since it's still going strong?

My preference based on utility and looks is the Ram. I'm not crazy about the new Titan look. And those side bed boxes are awesome. But those prices would give me a heart attack!

Starting last Nov I've been using my Titan for work and really packing on the miles, and also driving it on some roads I would never want to intentionally drive a nice keeper vehicle on (read "Detroit"! ... and many many rough dirt back roads (ie washboard! and holes!). And this same work will continue for the next 6 months or so at least. And there's the potential that it'll be needed again in about 2 years to do more of this same driving work. So my plan is to keep the ol' Titan for work, running it as long as it's reasonably repairable, and get myself a nicer daily driver soon.

Basically I'm pretty sure I'll be running the '05 into the ground, and I don't wanna use a new truck for the harsh work I'm doing.

What's interesting is that I get reimbursed for my Titan's usage at the IRS rate of 53.5 cents a mile, and after a 1,500 or 2,000 mile trip that reimbursement check seems pretty nice, especially for use of a truck that's 12 years old and has 155K miles. BUT ... wearing it out like this also means I have to spend time and effort researching and trying to find a suitable replacement, one I hopefully like as much as the '05. And that's turning out to be not so easy. I've really enjoyed owning the '05 and as I said have had pretty good luck with it mechanically. It's needed new brakes, as expected, (~$700), and started replacement (~$750), but has had no major breakdowns that wouldn't be kinda expected after 12 years / 150K miles. But with having no payments for about 7 years now, somehow it doesn't hurt much to pay those seemingly big costs to get to roll on down the road for months more with a great truck with no payments. I've also always thought it's a good lookin' truck, which doesn't come easily for me since I'm picky! Although I admit its look is starting to look dated now.

My preference based on utility and looks is the Ram. I'm not crazy about the new Titan look. And those side bed boxes are awesome. But those prices would give me a heart attack!
Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. And agreed. BUT ... the Ram is still a Chrysler product. And I've been on the Ram forums, and they def have some issues. One common one is for the tailgate to open, slam open that is, since Ram doesn't include a damper, and nobody seems to know how to fix it. Yours either has it or not, and if it does it's a problem. Another common one is a transmission shifting problem where it downshifts so hard that the wheels lock up. This seems most prevalent in 2014 models, but also some in '15 and '16. Maybe gone now. Not sure. Another is a bump when the truck has the optional 32-gal fuel tank (which I'd want!). Apparently there's no damper in the large tank, so when you press the brakes the fuel sloshes to the front so hard it feels like somebody bumped the rear of the truck. Not sure how much of an issue this would really be, but possibly another nag.

I've also owned a Chrysler before, and the experience was, meh, so-so. Granted it was 21 years ago ... a '96 Caravan. It actually ran very good for 8 years, but it had some gremlins: The windshield wipers would sometimes make a single pass all on their own. The doorlocks never did work right, even after several warranty repair attempts (I gave up after that). And one time the starter engaged and cranked the motor but then did NOT disengage, so eventually the starter turned so long the whole time the engine was running that it overheated and actually caught on fire. Had I not had my crazy friend with me who was willing to crawl under the van and grab the fire with a rag to put it out (and burning his hand anyway), the van might've just burned up right there on the side of the road. Damn him!

(sorry, this turned into a book)

I had an 05 Ram and have always wanted a Titan or Tundra. Narrowed it down to a Titan or another Ram, both almost exactly what you have up there. I went to check out the Titan first and loved it. Being one the most impulsive people alive I played the game the best I could with the very little patience I had and ended up with the 17 CC SL and I love it. With that said, there are far and few Titans around these parts and part of the reason I went with the Titan was because I wanted something a little different.
I know I over paid without a doubt. I ended up paying like $48,8xx or close to that (sticker was over $52K). With my trade and rebate and such, I ended up financing around 43K with tax/title/extended warranty/gap/scam Zurich bull****. I checked the invoices and online stuff which were around ~$46,600 at the time. I paid maybe $1800 over invoice, but I can't just play the game man. I don't have the time nor the patience although I did well on the extra stuff. I guess it depends on where you live too. I have a ton of dealerships around me but just the 1 Nissan dealership close to me. Like I said, if you can play the game and leave and make them chase you, do it. Or even have the time for their "walk" back and forth, do it. I just needed the payment within a range which I ended up pretty close before the extas I forgot about but whatever. Is what is now. Good luck in any case.

Go titan. The 2011 QX56 engine that the new titan V8 has is the upgrade the titan always needed.

The VK56VD V8.

From the sound of your post you will be let down by the ram. drive an feel them both, ill bet you will like the titan more.

Not sure about your area, but here in tx you can get the SL for 39,999 and cheaper by just in haggling.

Thanks,

FWIW. I was also looking at Rams, 2011-2012's, and was reading about serious engine problems. Something about lack of oil wiping out cams.

I'd definitely lean Titan but I'm sure there will be some growing pains with it also

Good luck

$40K is crazy and I try to not beat myself up when I see those numbers. You haggle down to $38k and that's what I paid after $10500 off the $48K price with my trade/rebate. I couldn't fathom getting my truck for something like $30K after my trade/rebate.
I even thought of waiting until the "end of the year sale" but my impulsiveness gets the best of me at times.

Thank you ... and yeah I do kinda like the rarety of the Titan vs seeing Rams all over the place. Many of the later Rams look real good, but boy there are a lot of 'em.

I did drive the actual Ram I posted above and a '17 Titan King Cab S trim. Neither was just jaw dropping awesome (of course the Titan S is pretty basic). Maybe I was in some sort of mood, who knows HAHA.

Good to know! Thanks. I'm leaning toward your Go Titan rec.

Yeah, nothing is perfect, for sure. But my overall feel at both dealerships, and on their websites, is that Nissan just has their stuff together better. Everything seems to be more cut-and-dry no nonsense. I don't like nonsense HAHA.

Ram: The sales guy pressured me so hard to buy that Ram above right there on the spot that when I stated it AGAIN that I just wanted to see it and take a quick test drive but have no intention of buying it, it was like he wasn't going to let me go. So I finally stood up and reached out to shake his hand, and he refused. Just immature, sales pressure crap. He said the whole "What's it gonna take" stuff and "Make me an offer. What can it hurt?" ... so I said $40K flat right now. He said, "Woe, where are you getting THAT??" I said, "You told me to make you an offer, so I did. You take $40K right now and it's a done deal." Of course it didn't happen.

Nissan: The sales guy grabbed keys for the quick test drive in the King Cab S I asked for, and never pressured me at all. Just gave me the facts, and when I said I don't want that one he never mentioned it again, and never pressed to buy anything actually. At this point he's still waiting for me to get back to him, and it's been 3 days.

So, I certainly like the Nissan dealer better.

Are you saying $40K is crazy low? I guess you're comparing that to what you paid? If I can get this one in the $42-43K range I'll buy it. $44K maybe. $45K maaaaaaybe, but maybe not ... so I guess $44,999 is my tipping point :) I don't see me going higher than $45K, and the initial out-the-door price the Nissan sales guy gave me is currently sitting at $47,400, so they'd have to come down at least $2,400. Is that likely?

So you guys can see what my '05 is being used for, below is a pic. I drive around with a small TV receiving antenna mounted on a hitch mounted telescoping pole with a meter sitting in the passenger seat recording the signal strength of our client's TV station. For any one station the entire drive takes a total of 1,500 to 4,000 miles. I'm in FL, so when somebody out of state hires us, I have to drive a long way just to get to their area, since my truck's antenna mount setup is not easily transferable to just any other truck (ie a rental). I've been as far as Detroit which is 1,000 miles just to get to the start of the measurements. And I have to stop at as many as 40 different locations in the station's service area to raise the antenna to a height of 30' and then drive slowly for 100' over a 2-minute period. I end up driving on some really really really rough roads that are just incredibly jarring to the entire truck. If you've never driven on Detroit's inner city roads, try not to ... unless you are in a rental.

That's low, yes. I paid $48,xxx. After my trade/rebate/1K down, I ended up at $38,XXX - then after tax/title/scam zurich/and I extended the warranty to 7/100000, I ended up financing $43,xxx.

Getting down to $45K probably is likely if you can play the game. Just for ref like I said above, my sticker was over 52 (had some added on ****). Got them down to around $48K and the dude said that's the best be can do. I told him cool, I was gonna leave then. He goes okay, if you change your mind come back. Of course the sales rep gave me his card and on the way out told me that really the best they can do. Went on a whole thing about how internet has ruined pricing and basically what they show online is usually the best they can do.

With that said, my true car was like $46,600. So at $48 I paid maybe 1800 over if that crap is accurate. Had I left, he probably would of called and came down but honestly, I just don't have the time and patience. I'd even go as far to say I'm probably the exact customer they want. Haggle a bit, play the game, get me semi happy and close to my number and then just give in.

I don't like dealerships or car salesman. I respect they gotta job to do but they are crooks but it is what it is. I believe after seeing some other numbers, it's all relative to where you live and dealerships. My dealership was pretty small and they only had a handful of Titans, and only 1 SL which is the one I bought. Could I of saved 10, maybe 20 dollars a month if I left? Probably. But I just don't give a **** enough to bottom these guys out and come and go and play the game to that extent and they weren't pushy at all to be honest. But if 40K seems to be a killer dealer but as I said, I live in Lake County which is the most expensive County in this **** state.

That's a lot of coin to finance, that's what always gets me. This is probably why I only buy CPO'd vehicles. Most of the depreciation has taken a hit and you are left with all the same benefits of a factory warranty. I would shop around and see what dealers have to offer for both trucks, new and CPO you might get lucky.

I always like to search here: https://www.autolist.com/nissan-tit..._filter=year:desc&page=1&radius=100&trim[]=SL

I think you could save yourself a bunch of money,Good luck!

Hers another tip. When it comes time to finance it try looking at farm bureau bank. They have extremely low interest rates, average around 3.4 percent. My wife and I got her a new car back in the spring and the dealer was going 7.5 percent I believe with a note at 300 a month. Which isn't bad considering. Went and talked with my insurance guy, who is farm bureau, and got it refinanced thru them at 3.4 percent and note dropped from 300 to 235 and from 75 months to 60. Be a worthwhile thing to look into. I'm going to be looking into a new truck myself sometime next year. I'd love a pro 4x crew cab but be ok with just a regular 4x4 Titan. If not a Titan a tundra and very slim chance on a new Chevy. And never a dodge, the name says it. Dodge it and stay away. Lol.

I appreciate the info, and I'd heard that farm bureaus and credit unions sometimes offer better rates. However, having had the '05 for 12 years, and being pretty disciplined with my income in the years after the 05's payments ended, I'm a cash buyer this time ... unless there's a 0% deal available. Or maybe 1% Haha. Now a real financial wiz would prob never pay cash, instead paying the 3.4% or even the 7.5% and investing the cash making a more than 7.5%. Sadly, I'm no financial wiz. And I can't stand the thought of taking on new payments for 4 or 5 years.

I'm going to be looking into a new truck myself sometime next year. I'd love a pro 4x crew cab but be ok with just a regular 4x4 Titan. If not a Titan a tundra and very slim chance on a new Chevy.
The Tundra rates highly. But that's the ugliest new truck out there ... unless you jack it up and put big tires on it, but that doesn't interest me. No Chevy/GMC for me either.

And never a dodge, the name says it. Dodge it and stay away. Lol.
HAHA I hadn't heard that one, but I like it! They sure look good, but scary.

Good luck with your search when the time comes.

Oh boy. That's just what I suspected, after reading the Ram forums and other reviews. Nissan just has their sh!t together better.
