Hey All,

New to the forum - I found a great deal on a 2 owner, no accident 2004 Titan with 150xxx miles.

I havent checked it out yet, but the owner says he let the truck sit for about a month. When he was running some errands and it started making a noise from what is seemingly the tranny when he's on the gas and in first gear. He described it as sounding like baseball cards in the spokes of a tire. He said it's intermittent and and everything is still shifting and driving perfectly fine.

Any ideas what I should be looking for? Anyone else have this issue before?

Check for exhaust leaks, based on that description. If it is the transmission (or transfer case, if 4WD?), I would probably move on, unless it's a REAL good deal.

I read the lengthy article about buying a first gen Titan used and what to do. Current owner claimed to have done the axle seals and exhaust manifolds to fix the common issues.

04 with 150k miles, SE 4x4 asking $3800 for it. Seems like a good enough deal to perhaps deal with some issues. But I appreciate any advice!

Take to a mechanic for an inspection prior to purchase. They can see a lot with it on the lift. Best money ever spent. Less than $100. Trans cost $5K.
