Magnaflow Muffler Install ?

8771 Views 17 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  IGotLost
I just bought the 18" Magnaflow muffler for my 06 Titan and I was wondering if I cut off the stock muffler will I need to lengthen the stock pipes or will it fit right in. I bought the Stainless Band clamps and I want to make sure I have everything before I start cutting it off. The truck is at home and I was hoping to stop and get anything I need on my way home.

Also did anyone worry about putting a hanger on theirs? If so did you cut the hanger of the stock muffler or make something up?

I can't wait to hear how it sounds.

The 18" will fit right in without needing an extension. You should have a new hanger rod welded to the new muffler. You can use the same female hanger mount but not the rod.

I was also able to fit it in without extensions, just cut the stock off close to the muffler to make sure you still have enough hanger on the tailpipe section.

I did not put a new center hanger on mine, but I am not saying that is a good idea...
Thanks for the info. I installed it tonight and it was a piece of cake. The Sawzall came in real handy. I didn't put a hanger on the new muffler but I thought I could maybe cut off the stock one an weld it to the new one.

sudden urge,

Is that a stainless rod you had welded to it? Where did you get it? I'd rather go that route if I can find a stainless rod. Did you have it mig welded? I'm pretty sure I can gas weld it but I'm still checking into it. I'd rather do it myself if I can. I have an ARC welder and Ox/Acetylene setup but no mig welder.

Thanks again.

No, it was a zinc coated steel rod. I have no idea how he welded it, I would think it was mig welded.
Thanks for the sound clips, sudden urge! Does anyone have any thoughts on Magnaflow vs. Banks catback systems? I'm just looking for a little more rumble at low rpms.
So this is an exact fit? Did you need any adapters to fit the pipes together? What size muffler, and ID OD pipe size fits right? I want to do this today. Is there a part number that is a direct fit replacement?
12256 is the 18". 2.5 pipe size. You don't need an adapter, the ID of the muffler is the OD of your existing pipes. Just cut the old one off close.

Hold the new muffler up there before you cut anything, and you should see what you are trying to do.
How much was it? Do you remember?
What about resinence inside the cab? Also How much?
I got mine for $70 shipped through Amazon.

There is the smallest bit of drone between 58-62 if you are going uphill, other than that, my Terras are louder on the highway. But if you lay it on.....:thedevil:

I also just bought mine from performancepeddler for $63. I should get it this week and can't wait to install and hear it roar.
I also got mine from performancepeddler. They just drop ship from Magnaflow direct. I took mine to a local muffler shop and had it welded in for about $40. There is a slight drone on mine around 1750rpm, which is about 68-70 mph. Other than this, it has a very nice tone around town and when you step on it, it comes to life.
all this muffler talk is making me want to try a magnaflow setup too...
I saw a few shops mentioned and the sound clip is freakin ideal. I'm over amazon or ebay though, especially ebay. Where's a legit store other than a local one that you recommend, unless you're in SD CA.

Thanks
