My front end collapsed Saturday afternoon as I was poking down a bumpy dirt road doing less than 5 miles per hour. I heard a loud "clunk" by the right front tire and then realized I couldn't turn either direction without hearing a metal on metal scraping sound.
I immediately returned to the camp and parked the truck where I could take a better look. It was pretty obvious what had happened. The front stabilizer bar had collapsed and bent forward causing it to rub on the front tires whenever the wheel was turned. This sheared off the inside of the left rim and sent those shaved pieces into the tire. The tire went flat, of course.
I had to call a tow truck Sunday morning and have them pick it up and take it to the nearest Nissan dealership (60 miles away in Tallahassee, Florida). I was at the dealer this morning when they opened up and the service manager said he'd never seen anything like it. I'm still waiting to hear back from them as I imagine they're all standing around scratching their heads.
I live 100 miles away from Tallahassee in Panama City. Luckily I had the use of another truck and was able to drive back after I left the dealer.
The truck has 8350 miles on it and had the brakes worked on last week here in Panama City. The local dealer's paperwork simply indicates that they turned the rotors. The only modification I have is prerunnergreg's leveling kit. I don't see how that could be the problem, either.
Obviously I'm anxious to see how this one plays out. It's a PITA not having your truck but an even bigger pain when it's broken down in another town.
