Well after 122202 miles I had my first major disaster. I was heading home from camping on I-70 when the wife noticed white smoke coming from the back of the truck. About the same time I noticed white smoke coming from the front. I immediately pulled over and shut it down. There was all kinds of smoke coming from the front end and when I opened the hood, there was oil everywhere. Oil was all over the inside passenger side front wheel well, dripping from all over the place under the truck and all over my camper. Ended up on the side of 70 for an hour before AAA came to the rescue. My buddy had to come out with his 08 F-350 to get my trailer. Of course Carmax was quick to inform me that my warranty expired on the 17th. I'm trying not to panic but I'm kinda bummed since I just put new exhaust on it and new tires last fall.:flame:

Any idea how much oil came out? I sure hope there was enough when you turned it off.

04BlackTitanLE- Isn't the oil filter pointed down at like a 45 degree angle? Seems like if it was the filter it would've either sprayed the ground or filled up his skidplate

The dipstick looked intact, not sure about the filter. Okay, just got off the phone with the dealer, apparently it was the transmission oil cooler hose. Funny, it sure didn't look like transmission fluid but oh well. Still that's a lot better that a cracked block!

Welcome to the club! Suggestion, don't let the dealer do it, they'll charge you over $400 for less than $80 worth of parts, including the fluid...

Yea, I replaced all 6 of those darn transmission cooler hoses with good clamps in about an hour or so...... Including fluid probably less than $30 in parts. But, you'll probably need more fluid than I did.....LOL

So, while we're on the subject, how much hose is needed? Link to the write up? Lots will look here. I'm pretty sure there should be a sticky on this issue. It's been a common one. Great news for you Finns Brood!

I saw that the short hose that goes into the bottom of the passenger side of the radiator/transmission cooler was covered in fluid, (when I took off the skid plate to remove the sway bar). Glad I was experimenting with the suspension or I might be looking for a new tranny.

One thing to pay attention to if you buy bulk hose, (which is way cheaper, but not pre-formed with curves), is make sure it doesn't kink. When I first had the new section on I noticed that I had cut it a bit long and it had a kink in it. So, I had to cut it a little shorter as more fluid poured out of the hose and the cooler.

Get under there, remove the grill and you will see them all.

Get 4 feet of 5/16 transmission cooler line, the Dayco part number is 80383 and it's sold by the foot. You also need 12 worm screw clamps, and anywhere from 1 to 3 qts of Matic-S trans fluid depending on how long to want to let the fluid drain from the line once disconnected. I let mine drain for an hour or better because I was doing a spill and fill at the same time and was trying to get as much fluid out as I could.

Lol, too late for that! They got me for $300, $52 of that was for "pressure washing"? Didn't notice that until I got to work and went through the bill. I'm a little annoyed to say the least. I'll be headed back there tomorrow about it. If I wasn't on the side of an interstate I might have had the time to figure it out myself but I was kinda screwed sitting on the side of the interstate 40 plus miles from home. Oh well, so much for this months overtime. And it was $8.29 for the hose, grrr
