Hey guys, newbie here. Got an '07 SE CC a few months ago and loving it so far. Don't have any mods yet, but thinking about an intake/exhaust combo sometime in the near future.

I'm looking for a combo that will provide some good performance benefits, but am willing to sacrifice a little of this for a more subtle sound. Don't get me wrong...part of the reason I want one is for the nice burly rumble/growl, but I don't want to stir up too much attention. Ok, maybe just a little. :D But let's face it, I'm in my mid-30's now and well beyond the age for that kind of stuff.

I also use the truck for my daily commute and will be toting the wife and kids around every once in a while. So I don't want the sound to be too intense.

From reading around on these forums, it sounds like the S&B intake is pretty solid and not as loud as the AEM and Volant. Also, it sounds like the Borla may be a good choice for a quieter exhaust. And I personally like the sound of the Borla from listening to a few clips on this site...nice low rumble. So do you guys think the S&B/Borla is a good combination for this? Or is there something better? Any opinions on this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you want performance and sound, do the S&B / JBA combo. Best bang for your buck IMO.
I expect he's not looking for something as loud as the JBA, but ...

I'm not sure if you'll find a 'quiet like stock-ish' exhaust unless you just do a muffler swap with a large Flowmaster or Magnaflow.

Correct. From what I understand, JBA is one of the loudest...

Stillen intake is supposed to be a bit quieter than the S&B and comparable performance. The S&B takes some work to quiet it down. Performs well but installed 'as-is' it's pretty loud in my opinion.

The Stillen Cat-back is also supposed to have very little if any drone with excellent performance results(dual exit out back.) Not obnoxiously loud. Borla is supposed to be loud. I'd recommend reading a bit more if you're not wanting loud.

I'm running 22" Magnaflow and it was too quiet for me with a little drone. I didn't want to cut the tailpipe so can't comment on if that would have reduced the drone or not. But it is supposed to work - if you don't mind not having a visible tailpipe that might be the cheaper ticket for you than cat-back.

I removed secondary cats for the 'rumble' and it worked nicely. It will idle around now with a nice deep tone. If you get on it...you will be noticed however.

I wouldn't mind a good growl after getting on it...just not too much. I'll check into the Stillen system some more. To be honest, I don't know much about them. Seems like most of the stuff I've seen on Stillen was about their headers.

Thanks for the input.

The JBA is a touch louder than the 18" Magnaflow swap. I'm an old guy, and I don't think it's loud. I did hear a Gibson catback on a Titan and it was pretty quiet, about the same as a Flownaster 70.

Check on zoomers if you are wanting a nice quiet exhaust. They are pretty quiet and supposed to be drone free!!

I have the Stillen CAI and 22" Magnaflow muffler swap.
It's plenty loud for my taste & there was a definate performance boost esp. on the low end.

Nice throaty sound on start & idle, almost a quiet as stock in 'normal' cruising, but let's you know it's there when you get on it.

Only complaint is the drone between 35 - 40 & again at 65 - 75 (not due to the CIA, just the exhaust). I've heard you can slice off 12" of tail pipe & it's much better. Haven't tried that yet as I don't do much driving in that range. There was drone from the stock setup in those ranges, but not as pronounced as it is with the swap.

All-in-all -- pretty cheap power ($200 for the CAI, $150 for the swap installed).

Yeah, was doing a little more digging on another forum that another member suggested. They really seemed to like the Stillen CAI as well. Also mentioning that it is one of the quieter intakes. I really like the way it looks too...nice sealed box...very clean looking install. I'm itching to pick up one of these really soon! :frogtongu

Still up in the air with the exhaust though.

Just my $.02. I got the magnaflow/S&B combo and I love it. You can pick up the magnaflow from http://www.performancepeddler.com/. Since you have an 07 you will need part #12280 which is dual in single out. I got mine for $65.00 delivered to my door. You can get an S&B CAI from http://www.autoanything.com/ for $231.95 delivered to your door. The S&B is pretty tame unless you want it to be loud by going over 1/2 throttle. The magnaflow is not that bad IMO just a little drone between 1500-200 RPM. Hope you enjoy whatever you get.

If you go with the Stillen, here's a thread with install instructions you may find helpful.

http://mightytitans.boardnation.com/index.php?topic=2784.0

The exhuast is a personal call, some are more tollerant of the drone than others. Be aware that there is an 18" and a 22" Magnaflow muffler. Performance is identical, the 18" is a bit louder.
If you search on "Magnaflow", there are tons of threads discussing every aspect from sound levels to install tips.

Good Luck !!

Yes and yes and it performed well enough to win the the OT NA dyno award and altough it's pricey, in this case you get exactly what you paid for, quiet, nearly drone free performance.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll have to check on the Zoomers. If the price is a little steep, I may check on Stillen and Gibson as well. I've read numerous times that the Stillen exhaust sounds a lot like the Zoomers.

I have the Stillen dual rear exit cat back and bought it because of the very qualities you describe. It was recommended as near stock volume at idle with a deeper tone, no drone issues in the cab at cruising speeds, and an authoritative rumble at WOT. It is by no means a loud system under any circumstance and that is exactly why I bought it. I have been very happy with my purchase. Dyno results on other forums show solid gains in hp and tq. Although I have never done any scientific testing, my but dyno confirms these gains. There are a bunch of good systems out there, but this one is definitely worth a look.

I have tha dual Borla cat-back exhaust, and must say it is quieter in the cab than the stock exhuast. I'm 34, with wife and son also, so I understand how important it is to keep them happy. As far as CAI, definately go with one that has a plastic intake tube as opposed to metal, that will help to reduce engine noise.

I have the Injen intake and did kind of a "muffler swap" with a Hooker aerochamber and I love it. The intake is fairly tame on noise, but has HUGE gains. I was amazed. The exhaust is nice and quiet until you get on it. Even then it stays pretty quiet inside. No drone...

This winning Dyno run will give you an idea of how quiet performance can be and you have to remember, I have a metal tube, open CAI with the hood up, headers and cams.
The Zoomers is sweet and I grin every time I watch this because it surprised quite a few people to have the most powerful truck outfitted with this tame an exhaust, lol. It is definitely a sleeper of an exhaust system and well worth the money if you want quiet performance and can afford it.

JBA is pretty quiet at idle, sounds good when you get on it, not loud at all, but definately lets people know that there's a V8 under the hood. It has no drone at all. I had 40 srs Flowmaster on an old 2001 Dakota w/4.7 V8, and it was way louder than this. As far as the intakes go, my Nismo is also quiet, I forget that I have one until I slam on the gas. I like it, but if I had to buy one again, I would get one that would be completely sealed from the engine heat.
