I just bought a new 08 Smoke CC LE (2 weeks old). I traded an 04 f150. I can't believe the power. 17 HP feels like 50. I also can't believe the sh***y gas mileage. My Ford got 15-16. The Titan is only getting 11-12. I'm trying decide which mods will be most effective at improving fuel efficiency. I plan to add CAI, exhaust, bed cover, 2* timing advance, and possibly a TB spacer. Anyone ideas the added fuel efficiency of each mod? What about doing all? Could I get 3, 4 or even 5 MPG?

BTW I have 40 psi (cold) in the stock Goodyear tires

Thanks for your help

The only thing to improve MPG on a Titan is to stay out of the throttle. That will be nearly impossible with the mods you just listed. About the only thing you can do is leave it completely stock and put a piece of 2X4 under the gas pedal.

Yeah, it's hard to stay out of the throttle now. I've read on some other threads that increasing HP will increase efficiency. I'm curious how much increase other Titan owners have experienced. Or if there are officially dcumented numbers somewhere

Thanks,

Man, I have the opposite of you happening. I returned my 06 F150 (lease return) and got a 08 Titan. The F150 got around 12-12.5 MPG. I am on my third tank with the titan, getting about 15-15.5 MPG. For the first tank it was stock. Second tank I had the 2* advance. Third tank I added the S&B intake. Maybe by the forth tank I will have the magnaflow that I ordered last night. I havent seen any MPG change at all. I may not have the most time behind the pedal yet though.

If only I had a nickel for each of the threads I've seen about improving the MPG on this truck. There's no real solution to improving it. It's a rip snortin', 300 hp, stump pulling truck with a 5.6l V8. It is what it is. And that's precisely the reason I bought it. :D

Keep your foot out as best you can. Some have reported better mileage with the 2*, but I can't personally say that I witnessed any improvement afterwards. Actually, I think mine dropped slightly. Some say a CAI and/or exhaust. I'm not convinced on those two either, and it's certainly harder to resist the temptation to hear it open up with those. The only thing I can say is that these engines really do start to perform better (all around) at around 10k miles when the engine has really settled in. Constant easy driving will teach your ECU to be more conservative. Open her up, and it learns that.

agreed. There are no mods that will pay for themselves in fuel savings...well maybe the block of wood.

Try and buy gas at the cheap places...my titan drinks too much for me to buy it the good stuff...ha ha.

Best fuel efficiency mod = lighter foot on the gas training. My commute is very short and I am only on the freeway for about 10minutes (if even) before I am back on sidestreets. My total commute time is about 20minute. I am getting around 13-14mpg on a tank for daily commute. On the freeway if there's no traffic, I've seen the MPG gauge go to about 16.5 or so.

The Titan is a truck and a monster of a truck it is. When I bought mine, I factored in how much more $ I would be spending on gas. My old '97 Dodge Ram got about 14mpg on my same commute. 10 years later, I get a ton more technology and hp but keep the same mpg. LOL :teethmast

It's really NOT that bad. I just got out of an '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee I-6 and that beeotch got 17 combined city/hwy. When I pulled my dirbikes in the trailer the mpg dropped to 13! Now, with the Titan, I'm geting a pretty consistent 15.5 combined city/hwy. I can haul the dirbikes and gear down the highway now at 17mpg! For all the truck I get in the Titan, I'm ok with loosing 1.5mpg on my average.

I noticed that there's a real mpg efficiency "sweet spot" for mpg right around 45-55mph. I actually got my computer to show just over 20mpg the other day, albiet it was temporary, but it was 20!

I think quick starts and high speeds are the easiest things to make a real difference.

Tonneau Cover! I have read many many things and the best so far I have read that increases, is a tonneau. You can pick one up for about 150 for the cheapy's.

Your fuel mileage and horsepower will get better around 5000 miles.

Tre5, On the Ford, I had bed cover, 50 psi in the BFG tires and always used synthetic oil (Mobil1)... all of these probably helped the MPG a bit on the Ford.

Nissan 72, I would be completely stoked with 17 MPG

My first MOD will be the Advance folding tonneau. It bolts right on the utilitrac. You can get it for $540 at truckchamp dot com.

The CAI will be next. I'll probably go with the AEM dryflow. I've read a couple threads with issues concerning the mass-air-flow sensor and oiled CAI's

If I can find anyone in the Peoria, IL area, I will do the 2* advance after that. the local dealer will not do it

As I add Mods, I will post the MPG changes that I notice, if there are any.

If I don't get any added MPG, oh well, at least I'll have a hot truck

what about a reflash or stand alone fuel controller like an apexi safc2 or something along those lines? If the titan is like all the other nissan applications, it runs rish from the factory and gets leaned out when tunning - if you don't change your driving style and tune the vehicle, you shoudl improve on gas mileage

I have gotten 18.5 on the highway b4, but I can tell you that I definitely have lost gas mileage after I put on the JBA, but it has nothing to do with efficiency... I just like the sound of WOT too much!!!
