My wife and I spent several hours at the local dealer yesterday so here are my thoughts.
I like the look. It stands up like it's ready to fight. The interiors are well done, good fit and finish, roomy and comfortable for a truck. Both of the trucks we drove had near top of the line options and were priced in the $56k range.
We both felt acceleration was good, especially considering the truck probably has a curb weight approaching 7500 pounds. I'm one of those 50-70 year old guys mentioned in another thread who knows it's a truck and not a race car, but it did slip a tire when I mashed on the accelerator.
The ride of the Pro-4X was disappointing. We guessed this was due to the off road suspension so we took a Platinum Reserve over the same road and it was noticeably better. Handling on both trucks was good.
I keep seeing on the net a payload rating of 1733# on the Pro-4X, but all three of the trucks on their lot were 1598 on the sticker. That's only a hundred pounds more than my '09 and was very disappointing to me. The payload on the Platinum was even lower. To be a "tweener" that needs to be around 1750#. Even in the TFLTruck Ike gauntlet video they ran into problems with overloading the GVWR. If the truck is aimed at people like me pulling 7 - 10,000 pound trailers, they got the tow ability but missed the payload by a couple hundred pounds.
So by the end of the day we were left with a truck that is surely more than capable of pulling our trailers but will be over its GVWR when we get it hooked up and loaded. A truck that costs the same as mid level 3/4 tons that have more capacity and bigger motors.
We've been fans of the Nissan trucks since the Datsun days, but I think our next one will be either of Ford or Ram.
The dealer is going to call a spring and axle place Monday to see about adding another spring to increase the payload so we'll see how that goes.
