My wife and I spent several hours at the local dealer yesterday so here are my thoughts.
I like the look. It stands up like it's ready to fight. The interiors are well done, good fit and finish, roomy and comfortable for a truck. Both of the trucks we drove had near top of the line options and were priced in the $56k range.
We both felt acceleration was good, especially considering the truck probably has a curb weight approaching 7500 pounds. I'm one of those 50-70 year old guys mentioned in another thread who knows it's a truck and not a race car, but it did slip a tire when I mashed on the accelerator.
The ride of the Pro-4X was disappointing. We guessed this was due to the off road suspension so we took a Platinum Reserve over the same road and it was noticeably better. Handling on both trucks was good.
I keep seeing on the net a payload rating of 1733# on the Pro-4X, but all three of the trucks on their lot were 1598 on the sticker. That's only a hundred pounds more than my '09 and was very disappointing to me. The payload on the Platinum was even lower. To be a "tweener" that needs to be around 1750#. Even in the TFLTruck Ike gauntlet video they ran into problems with overloading the GVWR. If the truck is aimed at people like me pulling 7 - 10,000 pound trailers, they got the tow ability but missed the payload by a couple hundred pounds.
So by the end of the day we were left with a truck that is surely more than capable of pulling our trailers but will be over its GVWR when we get it hooked up and loaded. A truck that costs the same as mid level 3/4 tons that have more capacity and bigger motors.
We've been fans of the Nissan trucks since the Datsun days, but I think our next one will be either of Ford or Ram.
The dealer is going to call a spring and axle place Monday to see about adding another spring to increase the payload so we'll see how that goes.

It's sad to see one would need to consider adding springs to a brand new $60k truck. That in its self, shows me the XD diesel indeed missed it's mark. I also can't agree with you more, that for the same price or slightly more your into a better served 3/4 ton. Good luck in your truck search.

Your Dealer needs some education on what legal & not legal to do to vehicles. The posted towing/payload ratings on the door jam can not be altered, it's against the law.

Agreed. I got to researching that after making the post and from what I can find the GVWR is set by the manufacturer and cannot be changed.

bender; as much as I like the XD my common sense tells me that it ain't gonna happen.

Husker, I'm sort of in the same situation you are. My toy hauler trailer has a wet weight of 11,000 lbs. I probably won't be all that close to that weight but I also look at where I'm going to be towing the trailer. One mountain pass in Wyoming has an 11% grade (at times) that peaks at just over 9,000' elevation. Just pulling my 1,500 lb ATV on a trailer with a good 600 lbs of camping gear kicked my Titan's butt. I had to stop and let things cool down. The Titan XD just isn't enough truck for my toy hauler. I'm planning to step up to a Ford F-350 in the fall. The incremental cost - over the Titan XD - will be $10,000 to $15,000, but I'm getting a much more capable and beefy truck. I really like my Titan, but I'm not going to kill it trying to pull something that is close to or over it's limit.

Oh, one other point. The warranty on the XD is different from what the warranty was on my '07. The XD powertrain warranty is 5 years/ 100,000 miles. My '07 was only 5/60. The diesel F-350 is also 5/100k, but not the gas F-350 which is still 5/60.
