Hello I have 05 club cab with a noise which seems to be around the rear passenger side. It's like a banging of 2 pipes together. It does this while going at any speed. it seems to be when the truck is on uneven pavement where the body might flex. If I drive over a strip in the road where both wheels hit it at the same time, it is not noticable. It has been on the lift twice and the exhaust is tight and not close to hitting anything. It sounds like an exhaust banging. Would shackles make that kind of noise? They seem to be ok. What is the best way to check them? It has the big tow package if it makes any difference. It can get really loud on these great PA roads and will really clunk at times . Any help is appreciated thank you

Could be a number of things..Loose spare tire maybe? Check your leaf springs make sure any aren't broken. Also check to make sure the ubolts are tight. Make sure there's nothing missing back there.. is it coming from the like the cab area or the rear bed rear suspension area?

it seems to be from the rear of the truck. the wife thinks it is closer to the rear seat area. i beat around the spare and it felt tight. i didn't see any cracked leaf springs but did notice there were gaps between the springs but were tight at the u bolts. is that normal? it has the big tow option. what is the best way to check the shackles? i was going to jack up the frame to get the load off the springs and start looking for something loose. the next option was going to drop the spare and take everything out of the cab.thanks for your help, john

Broken leaf spring shackle? Early models are known to have weak shackles. If they break completely it isn't uncommon for the leaf spring to come up through the bed.

I still can't figure it out. Is there sppoed to be any give in the carrier bearing. I can push the driveshaft up and slightly. Do the leaf springs ever get weak and rattle? I don't see any broken. The trans mount looks good. Thanks for all the help. The next step is the dealer

Dumb I know but on my '04 I had a similar sound - turned out the top of the right rear shock was loose and would clunk but when I would check things it felt tight with me grabbing it.... Just a thought.

I don't know if you have tried tightening the u bolts? My other truck had a similar noise and I just needed to really crank on the u bolt buts and the noise went away.

The u bolts are tight, and the carrier bearing also looks good, attached is a pic of the rear of the pass side leaf spring. Does this look normal? The truck sits level and has the big tow option if that matters. I also noticed a plastic box that is located behind the gas tank and it is not extremely tight. I don't believe that is the problem but is it supposed to be on the loose side. Thank you all for your replies and help. Sooner or later I will find it or something will just fall off lol

here we go, thanks
Looks normal to me. Did you try the bike tire tube in between the leafs? Looks like it from that long rubber thing sticking out of the bottom leaf.. now when you say tight are you saying they won't tighten any more ? Because mine felt tight but I tighten them some good amount more and the metal to metal thumping noise stopped stopped.
