hey stupid question but i have a leak on the side of the differential where the axle connects too it for 4 wheel drive. When move it around it moves a bit around would the bearings be bad or just a seal.

It's normal to have a small bit of play. You most likely need a seal only.

but when i mean by a little i mean it moves a good amount that when u drive it around and hit bumps in the road it rattles

so is the driver side able to be taken off without taking the whole differential out? like can it come off

I had a leaking front diff at about 35k miles, dealership replaced he whole diff even though it was only the seal. They told me once the seal goes bad, others will do the same failry quickly as there is usually some type of damage that caused the seal to leak.

so looking at you photos on ur thread it looks like you can unthread the one side to come off. is that the only way to take it out lubecake

Sorry, I typed it wrong.

It has to come out. I think you can do the seal with it in, but I never tried that.
