So I installed my Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD head unit but I want to bypass the parking break so DVDs can be playing whenever I'm driving (for the girlfriend) lol do I absolutely have to get a relay or can it be bypassed just with a certain wiring? I don't want to have to go through the relay process if I don't have to. This is in an 05 Titan SE.

My pioneer avh 4900dvd came with instructions in the manual to override the parking brake, just had to install a switch, no relay. Is there nothing on the installation guide about it?

Nothing in the manual to bypass it. But I'll probably just pick up a relay when I'm in town tomorrow and be done with it. Everything is installed and works great, just left the e brake wire disconnected for now.

Relay relay relay, thats all you need to watch all the flicks you want if ya stuck in traffic...

Check out avic411.com. super helpful website when I had my pioneer unit, turns out on some units all you had to do was move the mute wire to another pin location and it bypassed the parking brake.

Ya but everytime you get in the truck, you gotta flip a switch. Relay is automatic.

I have a farenheit in-dash unit in mine, and all I did was ground the parking brake wire. I read it somewhere and decided to try it.......and viola it works just fine.

I tried grounding it the first time and no success. That's when I started researching and found out that a relay for the Pioneers is pretty much a must have. Right now, the dvd function isn't hooked up at all, we have a relay and I ordered a microbypass from the link mentioned earlier in the post, probably gonna try the microbypass first and hopefully it works.

My old pioneer required a relay

My new Kenwood works with only grounding the wire

I did a switch on my pioneer double din. It works great. Not sure if I was screwing something up, but I couldn't get mine to work with a relay. I was told that it needs to reset itself or something.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. That's why it's illegal.

However:

The brake control wire just needs to be grounded. But on newer Pioneers it has to see an open circuit first, before being grounded. A spring loaded momentary "On-(Off)" switch will do just fine. Parentheses indicate a momentary function with switches. After the radio is powered on, open that ground circuit momentarily, then close it again, and leave it closed. If you choose to go this route, you'll have to toggle the switch every time that you want to watch a DVD if the radio has been turned off. The upside, is that with a hidden switch, after the truck is turned off, it's basically back to normal (legal) operation (until the switch is toggled again). It'll be harder for someone to pop you for it. And if anyone borrows your truck, they'll never know its even an option.

I know the legalities of it all, but it's honestly not for me. I'm always driving with either the girlfriend or family and taking road trips, so its a nice thing to have. I personally would never watch a movie while driving at the same time lol
