i'm finally done with my homemade front mount receiver hitch. now i just need to get my winch mount finish welded and i'll be able to try this new winch out! hopefully it doesn't pull through the front of my bumper!!! i think that i covered all the bases as far as making it sturdy enough to handle a little more than the winch itself... we'll see!

:ftard: Sometimes I find myself asking dumba$$ questions but, your going to weld a winch to the male end of the hitch thing? I can't remember the name of it. What are you planning on winching, yourself?

Looks good from here, that'll be a first for the Titan!
the winch will be mounted on a plate that slides into the receiver. later on i plan on running cable to the back of the truck so that i could use it in the rear if needed. most of the time, the winch will be under the back seat. i figured that this would be a better and cheaper alternative to buying a new bumper or some other permanent mount.
Nice work ... But... Good luck hope it don't pull out

it shouldn't... i've got a piece of 3" angle that supports the receiver from behind the crossmember that runs between the front frame rails. i also added 3" angle( not pictured) from the tow hook mounting holes up to the bottom holes on the receiver. all in all, the receiver is mounted with 10 bolts.
if it does pull out, i guess i'll have to get a new heavy duty bumper!!!
Nice. Those are some nice welds on that hitch.
yeah, i had my buddy do that for me. he welds on industrial air handling units. i've only got a dinky 110v flux core welder that i used to tack it up with. combine that with me not being able to weld worth a crap and the hitch would have failed for sure!!!
if it does come apart, it won't be from the welds!
looks really good! I really like how it is hidden in the bumper.

Suggestion, take off your front bumper when you try the winch out the first time so that if it does pull out it doesn't damage the bumper.

For some added strength did you consider welding it to the frame too?

I am a big fan of the front receiver hitch mount. Keep that winch out of the weather and out of thieves sight.

Question... Why did you decide to do one yourself? I can't remember where, but I'm sure I've seen these available for purchase.

Suggestion: attach a grill for the lower bumper opening to a male reciever. When you don't have the winch installed the grill will protect the fan and lower radiator as well as cleverly hide the reciever hitch.

Looking forward to watching this thread's progress. Good Luck and thanks for sharing it with everybody.

Dude, that looks sick. I like how you used the angle iron pointing down to go behind the front cross brace. Would like to see a shot of the front of your truck from about 20 feet away to see how hidden it looks. Really cool. You did a really nice job with that.

I like your design a lot. I just made this one myself, but I needed to incorporate a pushbar because I do, in fact have some pushing to do (as well as winching).

i was thinking that i probably should take the bumper off.
i did run 2 small beads across the top of both angles that bolt to the frame's end rails. if you zoom in on the 4th pic, you can kinda see them. i'm real paranoid about that thing coming off!!!

i've seen some for sale for about $150 or so... i like making stuff myself. if i think i can handle something, i'll give it a shot. i only have about 40 bucks into this thing so if it doesn't work i'm not out too much....
i might have to make a grill like you said. i cut the stock one and put it back in the hole, but a nice expanded metal grill would look a lot nicer!

yeah, i'm hoping the angle iron will even out some of the load or at least give me a backup in case the bolts give out!!!
i'll get some more pics from farther out...
your mount is ALL THERE!!! i don't think yours is gonna fail!!!

thanks for all the compliments & suggestions!:)

That looks killer! Don't worry about it pulling off, (as long as you winch correctly) you have more contact points than a lot of winch mounts; it would start tweaking your frame before it would ever break. What size winch are you putting on it that will fit under the rear seat?

Nice fab!

Looks very cool! I had a custom 4X4 shop up here in Edmonton build one very similar to yours for me as I am not a metal fab person by any means. Then I ran quick connects to the front and back. And I also keep my winch (on the plate) bolted down to the utilitrack in the bed of my truck so it's always there for me. I also drilled a hole and used a chain and a lock on the winch to make theft more difficult.

That looks killer hidden inside the bumper. Very nice.

I've looked at the commercially available units for the Titan, but I can't tell from looking if I would have to remove my skid plate on my Pro 4X to make room for a front hitch. Anybody know?

well, i just went out to the garage to double check my claim about it fitting under the seat... i screwed up and got my measurement before i put the solenoid box on it!!! so... it doesn't fit under the seat now! :eh:

i might have to find a small plastic cargo box and do kinda like you did and secure it to the bed somehow... either that or just leave the winch in the garage 'till i think i'll use it...

thanks! i've seen pics of a couple store bought receivers and i don't think anyone had to lose their skid plate... i could be wrong.
pictures please!
For sure! I will try to take some tomorrow in the daylight and post them.
Looks very nice! Should do the trick!!
