Hello all, I currently drive a 2004 Ford extended cab FX4 package with the old 5.4 motor. It really has been a very good truck with a few issues that were fixed under warranty years ago. I am in the market for a new truck and am not thrilled with the 2018 Ford "refreshed front" and I love the look of the new Pro 4x Titan. I have driven a fully loaded Pro 4x one time and pretty much fell in love but I have two major reservations so far after being on this forum. Number 1.) The issues I've been reading about the transmission. Do you all feel if I got one now, late in 2017 the issue/s have been solved? Is there a certain build date I should be looking for? Number 2.) The 2.93 rear axle and towing. In driving the Titan it felt just as fast as a 2018 FX4 2.7 Ford I recently drove. The Ford had some slight turbo lag but was no doubt quick. The Titan had an awesome sound and great linear power, almost felt like a cvt to me? I preferred the power delivery and the sound of the Titan all the way. In researching this forum some seem to think the 2.93 rear is poor for towing? I found a very old article on the first generation Titan and it's axle which was interesting. Here is the quote, "The rear axle ratios are different from what you are used to. The standard ratio is 2.93 and the towing package or off-road package lowers you to 3.35, higher than what you are used to in a full size truck. Nissan claims that with the lower transmission ratios they've incorporated into the 5-speed automatic transmission that the power to the rear wheels is equivalent to a 4.10 axle ratio with a 4-speed automatic transmission." Thoughts on this anyone that knows way more about this stuff than me? Thanks in advance for your time.
