Hi All, I came here because I am hoping that the community might enlighten me as to if this is a common Titan problem. Sorry If I am posting this in the wrong place, I am a newbie here!
I have a 2021 Titan Pro4X with 52,000 miles, completely stock. Since my parking pawl recall was done the truck has been a problem. The big issue is when stopping and putting the truck into park, the transmission does not go into park, it will go into neutral. The dash reads Key system error, later instances the dash reads when parked apply parking brake and does not show the transmission shift position at all, which means that the truck is free to roll, the doors don't unlock and If I turn the truck off I cannot restart it. After the truck sits for about 30 minutes it goes back to normal and I can drive it but I have to be careful about where I turn it off, if I am at the top of a hill it can roll and I can't restart it, I have worn the parking brake so it goes to the floor and won't hold the truck. The Dealer has been great at supplying me with loaners but now it is excessive. They are following Nissan service orders and have replaced the transmission valve body twice, and now are waiting for a back ordered transmission. I have been in their loaner and without my truck for over a month. Has anyone here experienced this? This is my third Nissan Titan and it was great up until now.

Sorry to hear this. I have a 2021 with 42,500 miles and no issues after the pawl update. I home the tech did the recall correctly. BUMMER!

Thanks for responding, I actually don’t think the tech screwed anything up. My transmission worked properly when driving, it is the park by wire that has a problem. The fact that the transmission is on backorder makes me think there may be others with this problem.

Wow. Welcome to the group and man, that is a real bummer. It sounds like how cars used to have their nuetral safety switch go out and you would have to start in N instead of P.

Correct and back in the day you could replace the neutral safety switch and be done with it! Now the transmission selector is a drive by wire, like the throttle. A little moisture in an electrical connection can leave us stranded…

I am about 6 weeks without my ‘21 Titan. 52k miles and now a back ordered transmission just came in and is getting installed. The dealer has been very accommodating, I’m in a ‘23 Titan loaner. I used to be a Nissan fan, this is my 3rd Titan, 5th Nissan truck. No more.

its understandable

Just an update for anyone following. I still am without my 2021 Titan Pro 4X. The back ordered transmission came in and apparently isn’t working correctly. They are saying it needs a software update that apparently Nissan doesn’t have. Nissan consumer affairs has said Nissan will stay the course with the repairs but not offering to repurchase the truck. I was disappointed to find out that the replacement transmission is a remanufactured transmission and not a new transmission. I am now at two months without my truck but with a dealer loaner. This is the most disappointing vehicle purchase I have ever had. My third new Titan, my fourth new Nissan and my last unless Nissan swaps me out of it. I had no issues with my truck until it got the parking pawl recall, total POS ever since the recall.

Still without my 2021 Titan Pro4x, since mid October. Nissan is sending a tech to my dealer to figure it out this week. It was a great truck until the parking pawl recall. Now it is a POS, two valve bodies, transmission replaced and they can’t get it right. 100,000 mile warranty is a great thing but I never expected to be without my truck for almost 3 months, and still don’t know when I’m getting it back. Anyone out there have any luck getting Nissan to buy back their vehicles? I have lost all confidence in this 2021 Titan with 52k miles and never missed a maintenance, every 5 k miles.

Wow, sorry to hear your problem
I have a 2021 platinum reserve.
No transmission problems after the same recall.
My problem is the lighted grill emblem has the chrome falling off. Nissan agrees it's defective but they don't make that part anymore. Even though it's still under warranty.
Be thankful they're still making parts for your truck.
Enjoy the one that's running properly, I guess.

Tell Nissan to buy you one of these then.

I agree it's frustrating. They don't even make the part I need for my 2021 Platinum reserve. They stopped making the front grill light up ring before the truck was out of warrenty.
THAT should be illegal and even without lawyers if Nissan were a stand up company I would expect they'd fix issues like that.
I wish you luck in getting your problem solved. At least I can drive mine. Embarrassing to have everything else look great except one part of the grill though.

After reading all the people who got the light up emblem, and its now not available, i am glad mine had a chrome plastic emblem

Thanks. You just made me laugh at myself. I didn't buy my truck because it had a light up grill ring. I bought it, partially because I was giving my 07 Titan to my daughter and son-in-law. They needed a dependable vehicle and my 07 has been and still is a great truck. My 21 is great except for the chrome falling off the ring.
And I wanted a 4x4.
Nissan has dropped the ball and unless they pick it back up. This will be the last Nissan I buy.

That is a fairly common feeling lately. Unfortunately. To bad the oems don't have someone that checks forums as a way to gage feelings about stuff

Businesses did market analysis years ago.
Constantly locating where a good location to open stores would be. It's veey hard for me to believe Nissan is unaware of the existing issues. Maybe they want to go the way of GM.
If you don't build quality cars and don't back up your warranties you lose customers. This is the way.

If anyone is still following this post, I got my truck back, three months after I took it back again for not going into park. With a new (reman) transmission. Pull up to a stop and it lurches forward as it downshifts. New transmission learning I am told. It will get better I am told. Well it’s getting better with someone else, I am trading it in on a new truck, not a piece of sh*t Titan again. My third Titan, easily my worst vehicle experience ever, and so anyone who is interested knows, I buy a new pickup about every 4 years, I keep them stock and I have them serviced at the dealer as suggested by the manufacturer. I do a lot of highway as well as 4x4 on job sites, I carry backhoe buckets and skid steer buckets in the bed, nothing abusive. I don’t pull a trailer, it’s an easy application. This Nissan Titan has tarnished my opinion of Nissan, never again.

I understand and agree wuth you. Nissan just seems to care little or not at all with keeping or obtaining return sales. I loved my 07 titan le. But with them failing to continue at least one warrented part tells me mever again. Same with Dodge.
I might try GMC or Toyota next purchaae.

Really wished you had gotten a lawyer. Had a niece have this happen. As soon as Lawyer got involved they bought the truck back. Yours was severe enough of a case they would have bought it back versus dealing with lawyer. Thanks for story. Tells you what Nissan thinks of its customers.

You are probably right, I did not want to go legal. That draws a line in the sand. As it was, they fixed the truck and I had a loaner the whole time, no charge to me. I got my truck back, then settled. Not happy about any of it but I am real happy in my new ‘24 Chevy Silverado High Country. I hope everyone here has the great performance and reliability that I had with my past Titans. My ‘21 Pro4x was great until the recall was performed, but after that it was a piece of ****. Let’s hope it was an anomaly.

Just had my 21 Pro4X XD transmission replaced with a ‘reman’. I have about 20 months on the factory warranty but have that feeling I can’t trust the truck anymore. Did you trade it in for the Chevy or just settle with the dealership? At this point I’m losing money but may cut my losses. Had a 2007 Titan but this one is disappointing (tranny valve body replaced, then reman) what’s next..
