Ok next week i am going to do the Tru Trac install and I have all the necessary parts and supply, but have come to a thing that i need an opinion on. My truck has 74k miles on it. do you think i need to go ahead and replace the axle seals while i'm in there?? I've never had leaking problems before

You're replacing an axle seal that's still good or are you believing that they go out at xxx number of miles?

I ask because a lot of folks who have had axle seal issues have had them at varying mileage.

If you feel better about it, go do it. I don't know if that will give you better mileage out of them...
I agree with the above post. On the other hand, if it were me, I would probably change them out! It might not make a dang bit of difference, but I would like thinking that they were new and would last me even longer!!
I do believe that Nissan recommends replacing the seals every time the axles are removed. That being said, I didn't replace mine when I had the TruTrac installed, but I was only around 30,000 miles. If your installer will give you a decent discount, since he is already removing the axles to install the new diff, and with the number of miles you have, I would go ahead and do it. Just my two cents.
Well, my FIL had a Honda that he never did anything to..... for a reason! He never washed it, cleaned it, rotated tires, nothing! Just kept the mechanicals running. Reason: every time someone washed it, it broke down. Filthy and ugly, it ran great....

That said, there's a certain security in letting sleeping dogs lie. The old ones may be set in their ways and so built up with crud inside that they'll never leak!

Personally, I would replace them, provided the job is done well, cleaned up, and double-checked. No sense messing around with stuff and putting old stuff back together. You could knock some of the crud loose and they'll be leaking in a week or less..... IMO, it's basically a case of "the might as well" concept....

Good luck!
When in doubt......pull em out!!!! I cant remember if they replaced mine or not during the trutrac install. I have had them replaced before because of the leaks i know. I would go ahead and replace them depending on your budget.
New seals are cheap and the labor can't be that much. I'd replace them. If you got a leak because you didn't put new ones in you'd be kicking your self. If you put new one in and it leaked it would be covered under some kind of warranty.
Replaced mine and a week later got my truetrac put on. Did my miles and was ready to get my diff oil changed and they were leaking again..whatgives? i think the place did a bad job or somethin on the seals maby? Did less than 3k miles on the new seals.
I would replace them, Your already there. Why wouldnt you want to replace them?
