Newbie Needs Advice - Wheel/Tire Combo with 6" Pro Comp Lift

Hey There,

So I picked up my first Titan this week and I couldn't be happier. I had a Frontier for years and I'm glad I pulled the trigger on this one.

Anyways, I'm planning on making some simple changes to make the truck a bit more my style. I'm vinyl wrapping the chrome pieces and trying to black the truck out a bit. One of the first things I want to do is put some new wheels and tires on it, and this is where I could use some help.

As you can see in the photo the stock set-up doesn't fill in the wheel wells very well with the 6" lift. I was hoping to get some advice from you guys about potential options I have with the lift I have.

For winter it has a set of LT275/65R18 tires on stock rims and it also comes with a set of Nitto Grappler 285/60/R18s on stock rims for summer. They still have a bit of tread on them so maybe I could put I could throw them on a set of newer black wheels.

Can anyone out there give me some advice on what you would do? Are there bigger tires that would look better with my lift? If so what tires would you recommend? I'm hoping to find something that could work in dry and wet weather. I do plan on driving the truck everyday so I can't go with anything to crazy.

Anyways, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I would scrap both sets of tires. You should get a 35x12.50. That's probably what was on it, before you bought it. 18's or 20's is always a decision. As far as tires, if you don't see a lot of mud, I had really good luck with the Terra grapplers. The new G2's have a 35x12.50. These tires work great in snow, ice, dry, rain, etc. I had over 30k on mine, and they still looked brand new, when I traded in.
Thanks a bunch!! I figured the ones I have needed to go so I'll definitely look into those Nitto's. Up here in Canada they are about $2k a set, so not cheap! But hopefully they last a while.

One last question, is there any specific wheel I need to consider with these tires, or am I okay to assume that they will fit any 18" rim with the 6x5.5 bolt pattern?
Weird seeing a Titan at a gas station!

Some guys run them on the stock rims, but it's recommended to go at least 9 inches wide. As long as you don't go a crazy offset, you'll be fine. You can go to a wheel website and type in your truck and they'll usually compile the ones that will work. Go to several until you find the ones that look good to you. As far as tires, most all terrains will be fine. I just know that my experience was good with the terra grappler and a buddy of mine got 80 or 90k out of his. I think Nitto is less expensive than a lot of the others, too.
Rocky offered some good advice.

With a 6 inch lift, 35x12.5 or similar look very good in my opinion. That's what I run on my 6 inch pro comp lift. Right now, I have the ProComp 6632s (18x9, 0 offset, 5 backspace), with 35x12.5R18 BFG KO2s. No rubbing of any kind, and the wheels stick out no more than 1 inch from the sides. It's pretty much exactly the look that I was going for so I'm very happy with the setup and have no plans to change it.

I personally have no experience with the terra grapplers, but I've heard good things. For me personally though the BFGs worked much better, because they are winter rated (my folks live in Michigan), and have a more aggressive tread overall, to include the sidewalls (to support my limited off roading). Living in Canada, you may want to look for a winter rated A/T tire, which the terra grappler is not. Not to discredit his advice at all but, being that rocky lives in TX, his tires probably don't see too much snow!

If you are looking for winter rated, I'd look in to either the BFG T/As(strongly recommend new version [KO2] over old ones, but old ones are great too), Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs, or General Grabber AT2s. I believe all of these will come in your standard 35x12.5 sizes, should you choose to go that route. Also, as rocky said, I believe any of these 35s will recommend a minimum 9 inch wheel width.

Thanks for all your help guys!! After doing some research online I decided to go into a couple local tire shops. One of the shops had the Terra Grappler G2s and the BFGs. After talking to the guy for a while he recommended going with the new EXO Grappler A/Ts. He said they were specifically made for Canada winters (-30) and hold up a lot better than the G2s or BFGs. They were actually cheaper than both of those and when I put them next to the Terra Grapplers they look very similar. So I'm gonna go with those and hopefully they work good. Also going with the American Racing satin black wheels. I was looking for something a bit more traditional so I think these will work. They get here in about 12 days so once everything is on I'll take a pic and show you. Thanks again!!

So I pulled the trigger and and put a set of Terra Grappler EXOs on there with some 18" AR wheels. I'm really happy how it turned out! There's a bit of rubbing but I'll fix that this weekend. Now I'm taking it in to black out the chrome with some vinyl wrap and it'll be good to go.
Thanks for all your help!

I didn't expect you'd have any rubbing. Is it pinch weld or liner? Looks good, BTW.
