I posted this in the Tire forum too, so sorry about the double post - but looking to possibly buy these.

I'm going to be getting Nitto Terra's whenever I finally figure out which wheels to get.

I happened to look on craigslist and a guy has a set of 285/65/18 (close to 33x12.50?) Terra Grapplers he is selling for $500 w/ about roughly 3k miles on them or 95% tread left.

I am going to look at them since it seems like a smoking deal. Anything I should look for to assure I'm not getting burned on a set of buster tires/scammed?

285 ISNT CLOSE TO A 33.

just so you dont get surprised if you arent sure about tires sizes.
i had 33" terras on my truck ( nice tires but wear faster than i wanted )
325 / 60 / 18 is equivalent to a 33" tire. hope that helps. the ones you describe are more or less stock size tires.

285's ar not close to a 33, a 33 is a 305 there is a big difference in the size so like the previous post says dont be disappointed in the size they will prolly be about the same size as your stock ones

Actually a 285/65-18 is (32.8 in.) overall diameter so it is in fact close to 33 inch . According to Tire Rack.com and Americas Tire Co. :computern

The "65" is the aspect ratio, therefore, 65% of 285mm = 185.25mm Multiply this by two for each side of the tire, then add the 18" of the wheel, and the outside diameter I come up with is 32.5". That's pretty close to 33" I'd say...

My goal is to put 18" KMC XD's on. With these tires being close to stock - it's hard for me to picture what it may look like. I am going to get the front leveling kit done. Will those look bigger w/ those wheels on? Or will it look like I have pizza cutters?

This is my first go at adding things to a truck, so sorry if I sound lost. That is why I am coming to you guys.

I replaced my Goodyears with Toyo ATs of the same size, and I think it looks pretty good. The backspacing is different on my aftermarket rims which makes them stick out a little which may affect how I see it.

305 is the width of the tire, 305mm. The width doesnt tell you the height. A 305/35/20 tire isnt a 33", its a 28".

Here is a great tool to help you calculate sizes, Actually both tires are pretty darn close to a 33" tire!!! The 285 is slightly smaller at 32.6 and the 325 is slightly larger at 33.4 in Diameter.

I ran that tire on my previous truck and only got about 25k miles before they needed to be replaced. They ran great though while they lasted.

toyo is also a much narrower tire. great rating, but build more narrow.
