I have a 2004 Titan Crew Cab...

At first, the garage told me that I needed a transfer control device. Apparently it is part of the transfer case and engages the transfer case to 4 wheel drive. I am being told that the front axle is a posi front axle by the mechanic.

After the control device was installed, still no 4 wheel drive. Now the next possibility is the control module connected to the switch for 2WD-4x4HI-4x4LO. I do recall at one point hearing a clicking noise behind the dash or under the truck where the trans would be.

Has anyone experienced such trouble with the control module? Not to confused with the control device attached to the transfer case?

The Titan front axle has an open differential. Is it not posi-trac.

If a wheel sensor is not functioning then the 4x4 system will not engage. I had this happen to me when I crushed the wires leading to the hub. The wire was replaced and 4x4 worked again.

Are you getting any trouble codes? Go to an auto parts store and have them pull any codes. That might help to pinpoint the issue.

So now attention has moved to the transfer control module, which is a small device located behind the glovebox. Any one else have heard of such a think making loud clicking noises when activated?
