Hello all,

I wanted to get some input from the wheel Gurus out there. I currently have a leveling kit on my Titan and plan on upgrading the suspension to PRG's 4" performance lift in the new future. Will my current setup be able to work with the wheel specs below & not rub. I want to avoid doing the pinch weld mod. If so I plan on using 33" tires on them & later 34" tires on the 4" kit...Thank you...

17x9, 6 on 5.5 Bolt Pattern
Back Spacing = 4.53 in.
Offset = -12mm.

Once I saw a post from a forum member that said he had the Moto Metal 951, in a 17x9 with 4.5" backspacing and Nitto Terra Grappler LT295/70/17 tires, 33.3" and he had rubbing ... needed the pinch weld mod. And if a 33 rubs with these wheels and a level kit, a 34 will probably rub with the 4" PP, and the same wheels. I know a guy with a 6" lift and the same wheels, but with 35x12.5x17 BFG MT KM(1), that needed the pinch weld mod.

If you don't want to cut, use the stock backspacing and the stock rim width.
Why do you not want the pinch weld mod? I can't wait to cut mine.

I am concerned as well. I do not know really what the pinch weld mod is. I am planning a CST 7" with KMC 20X10 with 285/55/20 rubbers. Would this mod be necessary for my setup?

Thanks for the input...Dont really feel comfortable cutting the wheel well. Would rather keep things intact. For the stock 17" OR wheels, is the stock backspacing ~4.75" & offset +25mm? I will try and find an after market wheel close to those specs..Also will a rim with a range from 5.5" to 5" BS & 0 to +25mm offset work, just in case I cant find the exact specs as the stocks...Thank you..

Stock 17x7.5" rims are +30mm and the backspacing is 5 3/8". [Measured & calculated].
Stock 18x8.0" rims are +25mm and the backspacing is 5 1/2". [Calculated only ... I don't own any].

Backspacing is if you take a rim and lay it on the ground, (unfinished side down), and measure up to the mounting surface. This determines how far the wheel will stick out.

  • If an 8" width rim and a 9" rim have the same backspacing, the 9" one will stick out an inch more.
  • If an 8" rim has a 4.5" backspacing, and a 9" rim has a 5.5" backspacing, they will stick out by the same amount.
  • If the 9" rim has the 4.5" backspacing, and the 8" rim has the 5.5" backspacing, then the 9" rim will stick out 2" more than the 8" rim.

Centerline is what you get when take the wheels' width, add an inch for the lips, (because wheels are really around an inch wider than advertised), then divide by 2. For a 8" rim centerline is 4.5", (9" divided by 2 is 4.5").

Offset is the distance in mm that the mounting flange is offset from the centerline. So if the offset is +25mm, (about 1 inch), add that to the centerline, and you get the backspacing.

So if you don't want to cut your fenders, get something like a 8.5" rim with 5.5" backspacing, and you will probably be o.k. ... Or from above, you can see an 8" rim with a 5" backspacing would be the same. [Btw, this last paragraph is for 33" tires and a PRG level kit].

Let us know how the search goes...:computern

Very few wheels have the ideal b/spaceing for the Titans.
Most wheels I've looked at are 17"x 9" w/ a 4.5" b/spaceing which means rub-a dub-dub...I run the Nittos T/Gobblers in 295/70/17 so I might be able to get away with a 8.5" wide wheel and 4.75" b/spaceing up front, but then the rear will stick out enough to rub when I bottom out the rear suspension...which does happen.

Have you seen the American Racing Thug? They have an 8.5" with our Off Road backspacing, 5 3/8", so it would only stick out an inch more than the O.R. rims. [third one from the bottom of this list]http://www.americanracing.com/browse_atx_thug.asp

Clash ... another 8.5" 5 3/8" inch b.s.
http://www.americanracing.com/browse_atx_clash.asp

And in 8", a Mojave with 4.5" b.s. so it would only stick out an inch and a half more than the O.R. rims. http://www.americanracing.com/browse_atx.asp You have to drill-down to get the Mojave.

And the Victor another 8" 4.5" b.s.
http://www.americanracing.com/browse_atx_victor.asp

Procomp also has a good looking 8", 4.5" b.s. called the 7089.

I knew about all those except the AR Thug..Thanks.
I'm looking for a simulated Beadlock wheel, so far the only one I've found with the correct b/spacing is this:

http://www.walkerevansracing.com/street.wheels

You can get them in a 5",5.25",5.5", 5.750" and 6" backspacing!
Very nice wheels...very heavy hit in the wallet...

4" spindle lift you would probably want to go with the 5" b.s. and anything else the 5.25 or 5.5 depending on the tire.

Those are very nice, but definitely $$$. If you're keeping your Titan forever they might be worth it, and when you compare some of the bling 22" and 24" prices, a real bargain, but the price really should include a free ride in his trophy truck if he still has one. Lol

I'll keep my eyes open for other simulated/street legal bead-locks.

Does anyone have any info on these wheels?
http://www.btrracingwheels.com/

It says they have a street dot approve, but I'm unable to find any info on them. I really like how they look and don't look to be very expensive.

I agree, my tire just clears the spindle upright by about 3/8th " right now...

Those BTR Racing wheels, never heard of them, the website doesn't have any pics or specs for the streetlock wheels... funny...
