so a few years ago I had a parking brake issue and the drum assembly fell apart inside of my rear rotors. Lucky this happened as I was backing out of my driveway and I parked the truck and removed the rear wheels to find the issue before I caused major problems. so I replaced both assemblies for the parking brake but I never got it quite tight enough to be effective. No when I push on my parking brake pedal to engage the break I got a sort of spring pop noise. Its as if a spring is under tension and then breaks loose. What is the issue with my parking brake?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. 2010 Nissan Titan SE Crew Cab 4x4

You can tighten the 10mm nut near the top of the pedal.
You will need a deep 10mm socket. Adjust it and check the pedal travel. Set it so that the brakes are applied well at about mid travel.
I think that the noise that you are hearing, may just be the return spring on your pedal. Adjusting the pedal travel may help. It also makes the E-brakes work better.
BTW, if you run out of adjustment at the pedal, you will need to back off the adjusting nut, and make further adjustments at the E-brakes shoes, then check/adjust the pedal again.

It is possible the parking brake just needs adjusting if it was way too "loose" to begin with, since you say it was never adjusted correctly. Take it apart, inspect, and if all the parts are OK, adjust per the Service Manual.

The procedure calls for measuring the minimum ID of the inner drum on the rear disk. The brake pads are then set to that measurement minus 0.024" which is pretty tight, although they shouldn't drag. The Manual also tells how to adjust the pedal stroke correctly, which is important (and could be the source of your SPROING as IMADOGMAN just said).

Good luck.

so that tension noise the pedal sort of skips when it happens as well. Will pedal adjustment fix that? I get the spring noise and pedal pop/skip at about 1/3 press. thanks for the response.
Could be the combination of brake shoe position and pedal adjustment... Service manual procedure walks through both adjustments.

I got it taken care of, took it to a local mechanic that does some of my work. I didn't have time with the new baby and constant rain in Maryland. Anyhow, there was some rust buildup (scaling) that was keeping the shoes from sliding into position and it needed to be adjusted. Good to go now, cost me $77.
