Pass airbag OFF light under radio

I noticed that the PASS AIRBAG OFF light under the radio illuminates when I first start the truck up but....isn't it supposed to stay on when the passenger seat is empty telling you the airbag for that side is off? Mine always comes on then goes off...passenger or no passenger. I don't think that's right.

They changed that in 06. The light comes on when a passenger is sitting in the seat.
I thought I read somewhere that the Airbag Off light worked differntly on the 08's, but maybe I'm wrong. good luck getting it fixed if it's not working right.
It is working correctly. Look it up in the manual.

The way I remember it is the light only stays on if there is an under weight passenger (kid) in the seat.

The air bag velocity is also tuned to the weight of the passenger, so you can tell your significant other that the passenger seat has a built in scale. :D
BULLWINKLE nailed it......

Yep, My dog turns the light on, but the GF doesn't:domohit:

Ok...explain that one to me. How does it not light up when the seat is empty if it's supposed to detect underweigh passengers? Can't get any lower than 0 right?
I'll have to read up I guess. All the ones I've seen only lit when the seat was empty....or a very light (like a child) was in the seat.:read:

The lights only activates "between" cretain weights. Zero is not one of them.
I'll put some weights on mine tomorrow and find out when it comes on and goes off.
It comes "ON" to tell you it knows somebody is there, but is too light or too short for the airbag. Some (I think ours, but not certain) systems also have a height sensor that helps determine if the airbag will deploy, or at what rate if it is a dual stage airbag. Weight and height both matter.
in my 05 the light is on when noone is in the seat. Look at the pic of the guy on the light. It has a circle with an X on it simulating no air bag. So ...Light on = no air bag activation.Light off = air bag activated. Simple as that! So if yours is coming on then turning off when the seat is empty id say your seat sensor is malfunctioning. It should be lit when seat is empty or under sized person is sitting there.

04-05 are like you said, but they changed it in 06 to be off when nobody is occupying the passenger seat and on when there is. I typed that in the second posting....geeeez.
GEEZ!!! cant i read? DUH!

thought I had i good answer for once. Wrong again..haha

should read more before posting i guess.
Wow....Isn't Nissan getting more high tech every year. I now see how it works and you guys were right...thanks! I was used to my 04 where the light was on, like GlendaleTitan said, airbag is off. And when the light is off, airbag is on. Now I find out that it has a lot to do with how the seatbelt is used as well as a more intelligent seat sensor. Pretty cool. Now, wanna really impress me?....give me 25 MPG!
