Looking for an answer? Since my very first car many...many.... years ago, I have noticed every spring the same thing. I always prep my cars (clay bar, polish and wax) immediately after winter breaks in April and again in October. I always have a "smooth as glass" to the touch finish until the pollen arrives/drops. I hand wash my vehicles, along with a quick detailer weekly. It appears that as the pollen falls along with the strong spring sun, the pollen gets etched/baked into the paint. This causes a rough to the touch finish on all the flat surfaces. The fenders, doors and quarter panels are not affected. If I clay bar and wax the cars, I'm good again with no paint damage. Just curious the chemical makeup of pollen that causes this phenomena? Please don't tell me to wait till all the pollen drops before detailing my vehicle's or wax/clay the second time. I'm anal about removing our NePa winter grime ASAP. Thanks!

Not so much the chemical makeup of pollen that is bad for paint, but the shape of the grains. Under magnification grains of pollen have tons of barbs sticking out in all directions. These barbs are so tiny it is logical that they may be getting stuck in the layer of wax. There is no product that I know of that will make your paint hard or slick enough to prevent this. All you can really do is hit the entire vehicle with water only, followed by a good wash using the 2 bucket method I hope you get it figured out, pollen sux!

Your explanation makes logical sense.I never considered it in that aspect. Your correct in saying there's no product to combat the issue. I know I have tried several wax's, sealants etc without success. I guess my only answer is to clay bar and wax again. Thank you!
