Possible pinion leak?

Just looking for input on how a rear axle pinion leak typically manifests itself.
The rear axle of my 04 4x4 is bone dry from the outside, no visible leak. However, when I removed the driveshaft today to get new U-joints installed, about 1/4 ounce of oil ran out from the inside of the pinion which was apparently sealed in there by the driveshaft yoke.
Is this how a leak starts, or should I see it coming out around the outside of the pinion?
Thanks in advance!

Looking at this the only thing I don't understand is what stops oil from travelling up the splines and getting past the pinion nut and washer. That's all I could think of but I'm new to a titan and not familiar with them yet. I can't believe you had oil in that cavity and it stayed sealed in there. You'd think it would seep out of there at least.

The driveshaft flange was caked on well and needed convincing to come off the companion flange after all bolts were out. The inside of the companion flange including the nut have a coating of oil on them.

That's typical. They make pullers just for that.

If you've got oil past your front oil seal, your front oil seal is bad. Id also recommend you check for excessive input shaft play as that will cause your oil seal to fail.

It wasn't past his oil seal

In my experience, the pinion leaks at the seal, which would then allow a drip kind of leak off the snout of the rear housing. That's how it manifested itself in a dodge I had. There should be no way for oils to get up the pinion shafts to where you found it. Most likely, that's from assembly or something.
