I recently purchased a used 2015 Pro-4X. It has the power inverter. I am an idiot when it comes to electricity and the owner's manual is useless in regard to how to use it. So my question here isn't technical. Just wondering what this is useful for and what it isn't useful for. I'm assuming I could charge my cordless tools with it (with engine running) but not run a circular saw, etc? Does that sound right?

It's something like 400w so you can't hook up much more than a Laptop to it.

If the inverter in the Titan is anything like the inverter in my F-350 then it will run some things but not others. A laptop will work but a desktop PC won't (ignoring the higher power requirements). There was a generic rule of thumb put out that anything with a power pack (like a laptop) would work

Your inverter is likely a modified sine wave inverter which isn't ideal. The pure sine wave inverters will run anything and are usually much more expensive.

I'm unsure if the factory inverter is modified or pure sine wave, but if it is 400 watts that's more than enough to handle just about anything you would typically need on the road (fans, some low-draw power tools, most electronics, etc).

I just installed a 600 watt in my rig, and it works with everything from my camp fridge/freeze, to my laptop, to charging multiple drone batteries, cameras, phones, etc.

I would just be cautious hooking up sensitive electronics to it if it is a modified sine wave inverter and not a pure sine wave one.

I am curious to see if the watt output changes between parked and driving. In a recent thread on the superduty forum it was pointed out that those truck's inverter produces 400w when parked but only 300w when driving. I found that to be unusual but confirmed it in the owner's manual.

FWIW...

From the F-250 Owner's Manual:
Do not use the power point for certain electric devices, including:
• Cathode-ray, tube-type televisions.
• Motor loads, such as vacuum cleaners, electric saws and other electric power tools or compressor-driven refrigerators.
• Measuring devices, which process precise data, such as medical equipment or measuring equipment.
• Other appliances requiring an extremely stable power supply such as microcomputer-controlled electric blankets or touch-sensor lamps.

Great questions! I just checked on my truck

Running and not running, the waveform is the same. Not a clean sinusoidal wave, but most electrics, especially those being rectified to DC really wont care. Hope this helps answer some questions.

Also, the wave doesn't change when the truck is put into drive...although one of the two lights on the switch does extinguish when the truck goes into drive.

That sounds about right, and makes sense, something along the lines of the ford exampled in earlier posts. However, the oe inverter does not produce a pure sine wave, only a modified one as I demonstrated in posts above. The lights on the switch show the different wattage outputs, one is 150w and the other is 400w.

Well, I wish I had one too. Those were posted by a member on the Ford-Trucks.com forum. I looked into a scope today that could connect via USB to my smartphone. Over $200. I can't think of enough things to use it on to justify that cost. But it sure would be cool, right up until my wife found out. :)

To shed some light on the issue of the 400W light going off when the vehicle is put into drive. This is a factory cut off feature that disables the outlet in the bed of the truck, this can however be bypassed by cutting the gear select wire on the inverter itself. If any one is interested in how to do this i can put together a how to.

So it is not a capability thing, but some safety feature to ensure you don't power equipment left in the bed while driving. Interesting! Now, off to look for USB O'Scopes! I just bought a Dell Ispiron 11 laptop 2 - in - 1 Tablet. 11.6" Touch screen with 3 USB Ports. Only "need" was to be able to run UpRev Diagnostics and not have to take my home laptop (cost/security of files if stolen). Pretty please so far. m3 CPU/4 GB Ram, 500 GB HDD, $369. My first laptop 15 years ago was a 12.1" for $1,200!. BTW, I had a 2kW Inverter for years. I now have a 1800 W Pure Sine Wave Inverter to install. Nice unit, ProSine 1800. Obsolete for original purpose at work (but good as new), got for free.
