You need to figure out your gear ration, 2.94 gears have 7300 pounds towing capacity (I'm guessing this is what your dealer is refferring too), 3.36 gears have 9300 pounds towing capacity. Two ways you can figure out what gears you have. 1 crawl under the truck and look for a tag on the rear differential that tells you the gear ratio. 2. Go out to the highway and go 70 mph, if you are running about 1700 rpm's at 70, you have 2.94 gears, if you run about 2100 rpm @ 70 mph, you have 3.36 gears. You can change the rear gearing , but it is expensive, especially if you have 4wd, because then you have to change out the front gears too. You will loose cruise control if you swap out the gears.
