I'm looking at options to upgrade the stereo in my recently-purchased 2012 Titan Crew Cab SV (with 6 disc, NON-RF stereo). But I've found some conflicting information in my searching.

Specifically, I'm looking for a Double DIN HU that has navigation. I've been a long-time Crutchfield customer, so naturally, I started there. But Crutchfield's system says most of the units I've been considering DON'T fit. The head unit I'm considering most carefully is the Kenwood Excelon DNX693S.

It looks like the length is what is causing this discrepancy...Crutchfield lists the length of this unit as 6.625", and the 'compatibility' (which I understand to mean the max allowable length that would fit) is 6.493". But I've looked up the length of lots of the HUs that people have posted about installing, and many of them are longer than 6.493...yet no one has mentioned problems with the HU not fitting in the dash. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Could it be that the 6.493" number is if you're bolting the radio into the stock bracketry, but the if you use the DIN sleeve it doesn't apply?

Look up the metra adapter/mount kit, maybe that will shed some light on the situation.

Something doesn't make sense. I installed a DNX692 (the predecessor to the 693S) last year in my 2011. The only tight dimension was the depth, however the 693S is listed as .125" shallower than the 692 in Kenwood's specs:

DNX692 7-3/16 x 4-7/16 x 6-1/8 inch - 182mm x 112mm x 156mm

DNX693S 7-3/16 x 4-7/16 x 6 inch - 182mm x 112mm x 153mm

I bought mine from Crutchfield, its still listed as compatible with the Titan but the 693S is not. I'd give them a call and talk to tech support, its possible that they have an error on their site.

The Kenwood eXcelon HU is a good choice. Garmin navigation, USB support, backup camera, Sirius, bluetooth handsfree, btw you CAN use your existing Sirius antenna even though Crutchfield says you cannot. It works great.

The biggest pain was adding the backup camera, I mounted it in the tailgate next to the latch handle. Good luck.

Give Tech12volts a call... He has probably put more systems in Titans than any one individual. Oh yeah... and he can beat the prices at Crutchfield... and has better customer service!

Thanks everyone for the responses.

My Titan is a second vehicle...it's mostly to haul my kayak around to fishing holes where the fish can laugh at me! I was having a hard time justifying the cost of the brand name in-dash NAVI units in this vehicle, especially when every unit I looked at had at least one flaw I really didn't like! Still, I needed SOMETHING because A: I like gadgetry, B:the stock radio is boring and horrible, and C: I'm incapable of leaving anything alone.

So, I decided to take a chance on the Power Acoustic PDN 626B ($160). It was a tough choice for me...I'm usually the guy that says you get what you pay for! But it's inexpensive enough that if it turns out to be crap (which is entirely possible), I won't be suicidal over it. The only thing I'm giving up that I KINDA wanted was HD Radio...but I very seldom listen to FM radio anymore anyway, so I decided that I could live without it. I've already got a brand new 4-channel amp and two sets of speakers...I bought those a while back for installation in another vehicle, but my wife totaled it before I could install the stuff. I was flabbergasted when Crutchfield's site said the speakers would fit my Titan's doors!!

I also purchased the ASWC-1, the Metra harness and dash kits, and a backup camera, which I was going to have to do anyway, regardless of which brand I went with for the head unit. So my total outlay was just under $250, not counting what I paid for the speakers and amp two-plus years back!

I'll report back once I find out if the thing will fit, and if it will work. Thanks again for all the suggestions!

I've got two sets of Infinity 6022si speakers, NIB, that I was going to put in the doors. I'll still use one set for the rear doors, but I decided to replace the tweeters as well, so for the front doors, I'm going with a set of Infinity REF9620CX component speakers. I'm going to drive them with a Clarion 4x50 amp. I had the 6022s and the clarion amp already, so I figured I'd put them to use. I've also decided that I'll probably put a subwoofer in there as well, but I don't need to rattle my teeth loose...I'm going to go with a single 12" sub box under right side of the rear seat. I haven't chosen the sub yet. Once I choose a box, and know the volume and mounting depth, I'll choose a driver that suits it. In the meantime, I've decided that I'll dynamat the floor, doors and rear cab wall, so while I've got the carpet out, I'll run the necessary power and source wires to where I'll ultimately put the amp.

I checked out the links to the unit you included. It looks like a nice unit, and I have no doubt about the quality being way better than the one I have.... But I have to have navigation, and that unit doesn't have it.

when i had my Toyota Tundra i had a full system in their and had a choice to go with Infinity's or MBQuartz? i ended up with MBQuartz components and Infinity subs. very happy with those Infinity's subs and would have gone with the Infinity components as well but the sales guy took off $100 since the MB's were on sale. demo'd those Infinity's and they do sound pretty nice. that amp is only pushing 50 watts so those Infinity's like power but it'll probably do. took me awhile to decide on which subs to go with since i'm a JL audio fan. but ever since they changed ownerships they don't make their subs like they use to. ended up going with 2 12" KickerProCompR in a sealed enclosure. like you i'm not looking for something that'll rattle my teeth but when i do it's there! i also too dynamat'd all my doors and floorboards. big improvement as i have no resonance. also, quiets down the mud tires noise from inside the cabin just a bit  the two links i provided are just a couple of their units. they do have navigation model's $400+
