I have an 06 LE with the Rockford Fosgate head unit. I believe that it is setup to work with either Sirius or XM, correct? What do I need to do to activate either service? Is there a code or something that I need to have? Is the external antenna a requirement?

Thanks in advance

You'll need the Factory XM or Sirius Control unit & Antenna external mount.
I Did XM, installed a smaller antenna & a splitter from 1 to 2, placed it on my dash - no problems with reception.
When you plug it all in the serial ID # will appear when you click over to hear the Sat. station..
Write that # dont & call the supplier.
I recently got ride of my 05 Titan & got a 08 that came with XM..
I love mine listen to it 80% of the time..

Sounds like you have the head unit controls but not the actualy receiver needed. You'd have to have the receiver installed...which can then be controlled bu your HUs controls.

There is an internal antenna available for the Sirius (called the Sigma antenna) mounts inside windshield above rear view mirror.

I'm having a hard time finding any of that stuff on Nissan's accessories site. Is there a 3rd party site where I could price out that receiver and the antenna? I'm feeling a bit misled about the 'receiver' thing - the salesperson made it sound like this thing was ready to rock.

Order yourself an XM or Sirius radio from thier web site. The book will show you how to run the antenna. Plug into the Aux on your radio, and you are GOOD TO GO

Yeah that certainly seems like a much more affordable option than paying out the *** for the proprietary player that runs through the in-dash HU. In case anyone is interested, my dealer quoted the following:

Receiver kit: $215
Sigma antenna: $68
Labor (2.5 hrs): $190

Total cost: $473. OUCH.

And they wonder where the derogatory terms such as "stealership" come from.......I'll bet they mentioned "factory warranty" several times as well. Take your truck to a respected car audio shop in your area and get a quote from them as well. And I don't mean Best Buy or Circuit City, unless you don't mind former cashiers and burger flippers pulling your dash apart. Good Luck!

Save yourself $200 and put the factory unit in yourself. It is not a difficult install - a bit awkward and tedious under the dash but not complex. I bought mine from these guys:
http://www.yournissanparts.com/catalog.aspx?StoreName=nissanofturnersville&DeptID=235155

and they are great. The main advantage of the OEM setup is the ability to use the steering wheel radio controls.
