I saw the print copy of the Infiniti QX56 in one of the car mags and saw that it has 315hp. If it has the same powertrain as the Titan, doesn't that mean that the Titan can get an additional 10hp to match it? I wonder what was done to get the additional HP? Computer mapping? Different more efficient intake?

Just wondering

340 hp 5.6L

i've neard that Nissan/Infinity has uses the same engine to get 340+HP on one of their sedans, using special alloy valves, but that Nissan tuned the 5.6 for FP torque for the Titan.

We'll see what a Nissan super charged 5.6 will do, in a few years.

From the article someone posted before:

"The initial plan was to convert the block material from aluminum (with cast-iron cylinder liners) to iron as a cost-savings measure. That idea was scrapped when weight and fuel economy became an issue, so the final VK56DE V-8 keeps the light-alloy block and head from the parent Infiniti VK45DE design.
In the interests of durability, the forged steel crankshaft supported by cross-bolted main bearings also made the leap. Two features that did not were the exotic titanium valves used to sustain the vehicle's 6,700 rpm redline
To meet torque and power requirements, Nissan engineers stretched bore and stroke dimensions to their practical limits. Boosting the bore from 93 to 98 mm and stroke from 82.7 to 92 mm bumped piston displacement from 4.5 to a more meaty 5.6 liters.
Topping the reconfigured V-8 is an ultra-long-runner composite-plastic intake manifold, the second measure aimed at plumping up the torque curve at the low end where pickup truck owners live and work.
Lowering the compression ratio from 10.5 to 9.8:1 dropped the fuel requirement from premium to regular unleaded.
Nissan hesitates to expose its hand at this stage of the game (Titan doesn't arrive in dealer showrooms until December), 50 output is currently rated "over" 300 horsepower at 4,900 rpm and "375-plus" lb-ft of torque at 3,200 rpm. For reference, the Infiniti V-8 produces 340 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 333 lbs.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. Dominique adds that 90 percent of peak torque is available from 2,500 rpm to give Titan excellent off-road towing, hauling and driving capabilities."

Looks like the titanium valves gives the Infinity more HP at higher rpm.
I am ok with less hp engine that doesn't require premeium gas :jester:

Great article amati5. It looks like the Inifinti engine they reference makes 340hp while the one that made it into production for the QX56 only makes 315hp. That's quite a drop. I wonder if they detuned it for non-premium gas use and thus the HP drop?

The 4.5 in the Q45, FX45 ect is really a high tech high performance car engine. It is made for high RPM horsepower not low end torque...although it does max at 333ft-lbs I believe. It is higher in the RPM range and is not suitable in a vehicle like ours.

If you were to make similar modifications to the 5.6 we have it would 1: be very expensive and 2: would still not be suitable for a truck

Unless you were a racer and not into towing. they use the lightweight valvetrain and higher compression so they can achieve the higher RPM's. That is where the horsepower is in that engine...again not useful in a truck usually.

Alaniz, a physical-education teacher and youth football coach, drank at least two beers during the night out, according to trial testimony. His blood-alcohol level was 0.04 percent, half of the legal limit in Texas.

so he wasnt drunk

the VK45DE engine in the Infiniti Q45 & M45 generates 340hp & 333 lb-ft
