So, I bought a cobra and as I was driving back from Dallas to Austin I Must have past by half a dozen cops and it only went off 3 times! One police car I past by was writing a ticket out to another motorist at the time. Does anybody out there no why it goes off some of the time and not all? Kinda defeats the purpose. thanks.

Realize that you bought yourself a radar/laser detector, not a 'POLICE' detector.

The cops you passed where your detector did not go off means they did not have their radar guns on. Also realize that when it comes to laser, when your detector goes off, the majority of the time it means you've been nailed if it's not falsing, which does happen with a lot of rear brakelights and occassionally from the neon signs in storefronts.
What he said. With radar they have to be actively scanning your direction to have it go off. With laser if they're scanning you it goes off but they already have your speed.

Your best bet is to 1) not to speed more than everyone else or 2) be ready with your foot to jam the brake as soon as it beeps.
Get one of those James Bond plate flippers and run from the cops!
I saw a viper with a hidden laser detector and radar detector/jammer. Built right into the bumper and the module was stealth in the dash. Sweet & expensive.

You do know that owning a radar jammer is a felony.

I didn't own it! Besides that - 'jamming' is way over hyped for real world applications. Yes you can send out the same frequency and confuse the gun but it has to be in an almost perfect situation. Also, I think the newest radar guns contain coded frequencies so that even if you can match the same frequency if the code doesn't match you are SOL.
There are better detectors out there but will cost more than your cobra. Bel makes some fine detectors which are usually number one or two in radar detector tests. Escort makes great detectors also. Escort owns Bel so both use basically the same technology and same performance. Escort 8500x50 is what I use and works really well with few false alarms. Price is around 300.00 but worth it. I do not intentionally speed but in Texas, some of our roads go from 70 to 35 and all speeds in between. The speeds change quickly and radar traps are all over. I need one just to help me stay out of jail.
Valentine 1 FTW.

Sorry to tell you but there is no such thing as a radar jammer. Besides if you are reading them with a detecter don't you think with the type of system they have they already got you? I know some one that will give you a whole bunch of money if there is a Radar jammer that actually works... Laser jammers are a whole different thing. I can tell you from experience that they work!!! Tested and proven countless times by friend cops and by ones that did not know. Check out the web site..

Here is a pic. Look at the upper grill on the outer sides and you will see them. Best money I spent even though I don't speed on purpose. Radar detecters in my state are illegal but a Laser jammer is not because it is regulated by the FDA. Kind of funny but works for me...

Yes they do have radar jammers, not for civilian use, but the do have them.
Sorry, my bad on that one, wasn't thinking that application, maybe for military application but would like to see it for OTHER than military usage that is capable of jamming the police radar. none at this time as far as I know...
