I've always used one, and hard wired them into my vehicle. Since I got a new truck, I decided to move my old uniden unit permanently to my MC and buy a new one.

I purchased the Beltronics Pro RX65 from Crutchfield (best there is now, even beats the new Escort 8500 X50). I guess I am looking for mounting ideas, or if most just use the power chord that comes with it and suction cups on the window.

This unit has "smart" leds on the power chord as well, so I probably won't be able to easily hardwire it... I assume there are more wires than just + and -.

Thanks!

Does you're have the indicators on the plug as well?

There was one red LED on the plug itself. Just cut the plug off and wire it into the "meter" fuse. That way when you start the truck it will turn on and off when you shut the truck off.

I just mounted a Valentine One (V1) this evening. I used the harness that feeds power to the rearview mirror. However, I have the one that has the garage door openers, compass, and all that. There is one brown w/red(?) striped wire at the very corner of the harness that only comes on when the key is in the full 'on' position. It will not come on in the accy position. The black wire is a ground. I sent more details to the FAQ email addy so it will hopefully pop up soon. I have to take more pics, though, as the ones I took came out pretty bad due to the fading sunlight.

I think you're misunderstanding. I know some 12v plugs have a red led to show there is power to it. The one I'm getting has LEDs to show radar/laser detection as well so there are more than just the + and - wires. I've hardwired a few detectors, but these newer ones have a little more functionality.

I'll just play around.. probably won't leave it out anyhow.. hate to have someone break in to steal it... broken windows are an inconvenience. :)

Access is easy as panels just snap off. Remove the panic handle and the door pillar cover will come off. I tied to CigLighter outlets into one of the Igniition on plugs down below. Plug both my radar detector and Bluetooth GPS into the hidden outlets in the overhead.

Don't waste your money...radar detectors lull you into a false sense of security...they don't work

I've owned about 8 radar detectors. Three of the eight were BEL's. Every one of them broke somehow; the power inlet on the inside of the unit broke, on/off switch broke, case fell apart. Just to compare, those three are the only ones that ever broke. I'll never buy another BEL. I currently have the Escort 8500 X-50. I had the 8500 prior to this one. The Ka band's sensitivity is significantly better on the X-50.

Only time I've ever been caught is when I didn't have it on... Was the lesson I learned to slow down or ALWAYS HAVE THE DETECTOR ON!!!

I praise the virtues of the Valentine V-1. I don't know if there is anything any better now, and it does have a lot of annoying false signals, but it really works well out on the highway. My first one lasted ten years. The second is going three.

Yes, hard wire it into the mirror-compass-temp head. I don't remember what color code I found.

ROFL!! Who told you that? You have to know how to use them, but they DO work, at least my Valentine One does. Very well.

There is some truth to that BUT they do work. If you're on the highway it will usually warn you well before any chance of being caught, however if on a surface street with little or no traffic on it and a motor cop is there with a handheld you will most likely be nailed, as soon as he pulls the trigger you're caught. The good thing is that situation is rare but I have seen it.

I personally don't use mine that often but I do always hook it up for a road trip, saved me a ton of money fer sure.

Bought (and still use) my V1 for about 10 yrs too. Saved my butt countless times, and I've never had the upgrades!

What "hidden" outlets are you referring to?
Do I take it that your detector is mounted to the overhead console?
Thanks,

My Escort came with a "Smart Cord" and it also came with a second Smart cord designed to hard wire in place.

I have mine permanently mounted in the Titan & I located the Escort to the right of the rear view mirror, just outside of the painted gridwork behind the mirror. The Smart Cord has a little monitor panel with "ON light, Alarm light and Alarm Mute button" This I mounted to the inside edge of the driver's side "A" pillar at the very top so it was in my line of eyesight. The power hook-up came from the electrical plug that was hidden behind the overhead console. I let the fuse assembly loop into the front drop down compartment so I can replace it if necessary without dropping the overhead console again.

This was a very "Sano" install with only the pigtail of the power cord visible where it comes out from under the headliner to plug into the Escort.

Hidden power conector? Explain please?

I got to the point of taking out all the drop down sunglass holders, and took out about sex screws, but I can get the entire console to come down? Suggestions?

If you have all the screws out, then you have to pull down pretty hard it is just some clips that you have to pull hard enought to pull out. It scared me the first time I pulled mine down, I thought I was going to break it.
