Raising Rear Seats?

14664 Views 17 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Djmacd
This topic has been disscused a few times before and I know that Lizardking has done it before. Anybody else raised the rear seats on their Titan? I really want to fit some bigger subs back there and just dont have the room. I think TurboDieselTitan was going to try, not sure if he ever did, but I want to see some pics of before/after and how exactly to do it.

Here are some pics of how I raised mine. I used all steel. I'm going to powder coat them when I finish the sound system.

I used 2" thick steel rods and cut them in 3" lengths. I drilled a hole through the center of them and found 4" bolts with the same threads as the factory bolts.

I also used 1/4 steel plating for the center brace and for the back of the seats against the rear of the cab.

Check out the pics, I hope it can help.

Seriously, I think you could make a couple of bucks... I know there would be interest for this...
What subs are you planning on using? what size box would you be able to get with the seats raised?

Well If I can find the time, I guess I could make some loot making brakets. I'll need time to work that out.

As for a box size, It's 2 chambers each about 2 cu ft.

Up until Last week I worked for Clarion, so I was going to use the high end subs that are now launching. I obviously need to promote the product I sell.

But I was just ladin off, and I'm not sure what I'll use. I'll probably pull some strings from some other friends in the same business and go with Kicker or Diamond Audio. maybe even JL Audio. Not really sure yet.

Here are some pics of my unfinished box, that I hope to finish soon;

I know I'm stating the obvious here...

But for those of you looking for a little easy extra space:

Remove the hooks on the bottom of your seat and add another 1/8" sticky rubber pad to where your seat bottom rests on the metal bases. This will make the seat a little tougher to lock down...but it maximizes your available space. This really helped for my setup which was just a tad too big.

Here's somthing you might can use also. Instead of Powder Coat check out GunKote or Dura Coat. It's a abe on finish for guns that holds up well and you can do it at home.
Do you have any pictures with the seat folded down so I can compare and see how much space I could possibly have? I am very very interested in doing this, possibly this weekend. I have two Type R 12's. They are very tall subs and I love them and dont want to get rid of them.
Do you have a picture of the full backseat with the seats in sitting position so I can see just how noticable the raised seats are? I am VERY interested, I just don' t want it to look or feel goofy when somebody sits in the back.
kewl idea mang!
I don't want rear seat passengers having a view of my bald spot. I make them sit on the floor.
I would also like to see pics of the seats folded down:cheers:
Thanks Djmacd for the pictures you submitted. I went by your pictures and modded my truck also. I am a tall guy, so i only went with a 2" raise on the backseat of my kingcab titan. this gave me enough room to put a 12" solo baric under the drivers side back seat. I used Rustoliem (i think thats how to spell it) from walmart. It is black and has a hammered tecture (pretty tough stuff).
Pics with the seats folded down?
Good luck getting your type r's under the back seat. they are right at 1 inch deeper than my solo baric 12. I only raised the seat 2 inches, so if you go for a 3 inch raise, then you should have enough space. i have right at an inch (give or take a bit) between the cone of my sub and the bottom of the seat. If you go for a 3 inch raise, you might be able to get it to where you can face your subs forward; this would save some time on trying to get your box around that step (where the jack is bolted down). you have appoximately 8" from the starting of that step to the front of the seat if you dont want it coming out farther than the seat does. I will try to post some pics later today or tomorrow.
Alright cool thanks for the help bro. I was thinking I would have to face the subs forward after I set my sub next to my folded down seats. Wow, these subs are massive, but not as massive as my Resonant Engineering SX15 though
