'04 2wd KCab BigTow 138K...Turn key ,click on right side of dash, no starter engage...Key off, try again ,starts right up... Only once had to cycle key twice before cranking ..
Issue started maybe once every month ,then every two weeks or so..now once,twice a week....always cranks and runs after cycling key though...getting leery that it may just strand me & equipment I tow...
New battery , cables cleaned , fuses chkd , IPDM replaced/upgraded...
My dealer serv/dept has no clue ( which doesn't surprise me at all !! ).but say they very rarely have to replace starter...

Any reliable intel on solutions....Please no SWAG's...

My '07 KCab 165k 2WD is doing the same thing. Anybody have any ides?

Trying to remember my symptoms. I think they were similar and it eventually got worse and it was a bad starter.

PITA to replace but fixed my issue.

Yep. This is what happens before you have to replace the starter. Look for a sticky thread on this site.

Thanks for the replies... Walrus : I did find the sticky on starter replacement....This is something I can do myself if it becomes necessary to replace it..But , wouldn't you know, since I posted on 1/31 it has only occurred once in 21 days !!

Kinda like having a toothache that goes away when you get to the dentist...

With all the other "intermittent" b/s ( re: VDC off/Slip warnings ,etc... which so far has cost me a pwr/brk booster and M/cyl & pressure switch assy !!! ) I'm growing tired of throwing money at this truck....

Kronos : Battery is brand new (1/20/16) AGM ..
I'm in Gastonia....30 clicks west of CLT on I85
