real world sound

Hey guys. I have looked at all the dyno reports and seen the numbers. I have also looked at alot of videos on the net. My question is which replacement muffler is the deepest, The Magnaflow or the Flowmaster? I know the 40 serice is loud but in all the videos it sounds raspy, and poppy, is it in person? I like loud, but I WANT DEEP, like real deep. Thanks for the help guys. I am leaning toward the 40 serice if it is not as raspy and poppy in person.

IMO, Flowmaster has always sounded like white-trash a$$. :D The sound from them is quite harsh, I'd definitely go with Magnaflow...oh wait, I DID go with Magnaflow.
I just bought a Magnaflow - like the guy above said, flowmaster reminds me of bolt on gheyness.
It depends on which Flowmaster and which Magnaflow.
Flowmaster 40 sound like someone farting in a coffee can, but the 50HDs sound pretty mellow and have a nice growl to them. Some of the smaller Magnaflows make a poping sound when you let off the gas real fast. The Flowmaster 50HD is the only Flowmaster I like, but I have heard a couple of Magnaflows that sounded pretty deep... The bigger the deeper.
I had a Flowmaster on and have a Magnaflow on now. The Magnaflow has a much deeper tone.
i have the flowmaster 70 series and it has a deep sound to it cuz its freakin huge!

That's exactly what I had on before the 18" Magnaflow, a Flowmaster 70, and the Mag sounds 100% deeper than the Flow.
I've got a FM 70 and its a bit too loud but definitly not white trash.
check it out from in the cab.

Why make such a broad statement about all Flowmaster mufflers.
I have the largest Flowmaster muffler, Big Block 50, & I bet
at least 90% of the members would consider it to be too quiet.

Because it's my opinion? ;) All of the Flowmasters I've heard sounded horrible, even had one on my F250 when I bought it and had to replace them. Sorry if you took that to mean something beyond what I meant, but I can only comment on what I've heard and what I've heard sounded like crap...in my opinion (IMO). :boxing:

:D
So the longer the Magnaflow 14, 18, 24 inch the deeper? How about overall volume. How then does that compare to lets say the 40 serice flowmaster? Ideally I am looking for deep but I do want something louder them stock.
On my Titan I have had the F/M 40 1in 1out, and a 22" M/F 2in 1out. The F/M and the M/F sound a lot alike, the F/M is a lot louder than the 22" M/F i have now. If you only want sound go FlowMaster, if you want performance go MagnaFlow. The next time i change it will be the 14" M/F the 22" is to quiet for me, it's a little louder than stock. When i ever get my Firebird on the road it will be a Flowmaster system.
The length and width of the Magnaflow determines the loudness, shorter and narrower is louder than longer and wider. The 5x8x18 Magnaflow probably has similar volume to 50 series Flowmaster. IMO, all Magnaflows have a much deeper tone to any series Flowmaster. Don't confuse loudness with depth of tone.
I have Magna Flow is a real nice deep smooth sound it only ripped up when your hittin it you know give it some gas:haveredfl

I think your mistake lies in putting the Ford on the flowmasters! FORDS=POO:fart:

Hey, it was a good truck. Nothing like my Titan, but then the Titan didn't exist back in 1999. :D Ended up trading it in on a Dodge Ram with the Cummins and quad cab. Baby on the way and the Ford was a standard cab.

Oh, and the Flowmaster was on the truck when I bought it. I had no part in installing it. "misslelau

:D
It seems that the 18 inch magnaflow is the most populat. How much louder it is then stock? I also know guys with flows on there trucks for years, how is the quality of magnaflow?
I have a f/m 40 with pipes and love it but hate the drone from 55 to 65. would really like to switch to something that sounds as good as this does but with out so much drone
I hate to do this but could you guys help me out with part #'s for an 07 replacement? The best online place to buy if you dont mind, my local Midas cant find part numbers that would fit and just for the muffler with my tailpipe and tip they said it would be around $300. $300 for just the muffler if they can find one to fit and install for 3 bills, they are on crack, thanks guys.
-Flowmaster super 44 "the new 40"
-Magnaflow 14 and 18 inch
