Hi, I noticed a few weeks ago that my stability control started coming on when I went around a left hand corner. I then noticed that the left rear of my truck is sitting a few inches lower than the right. I measured the 5100 and the rod is compressed more and I can push the left side up pretty easy. Is the shock blown? If so should I order a new one? I need my truck and can't take the shock off and wait for a response for replacement and can't find my receipt. I think I bought them off a guy on here who never put them on so the warranty may not apply anyway.

It sounds weak. Is there any oil leaking out of it? How many miles on those? Either way a blown shock won't be the end of the world if you can't replace it right away. Most people drive around on blown shocks all the time and don't even know. Just ask those Pro4x owners with the Ranchos.. lol

did you leaf spring mount break? the shock doesn't really affect ride height.

my rear Bilstein is blown also, evident by the sh1t ton of oil thats leaked out of it and covered the shock in dirt and oil.

No shock will ever affect ride height, except for an air shock. Springs are what hold the vehicle up, not shocks. Check leaf springs for anything unusual, as well as shackles, as the 04-07 models tend to have failures quite frequently due to a poor design. They have been updated and fixed in 2008.

The springs looked ok but I'll check them out again. The ride right now is terrible. Everytime I hit a bump the ***-end jumps and going around right hand turns it sways. Thanks.

If it is my springs can I put in an airbag system like the Airlift instead of messing with the springs?

No you need to fix the leaf springs if that's the issue. Which is sounds like it is.

Was afraid of that. I sold my boat and the guy who bought it asked me to back the boat into his yard. When he asked I didn't know that it meant backing up over a curb uphill about 4-5' while backing to my right. Top it off it was raining like crazy so the boat trailer tires sunk in about 8". I know it put a lot of strain on the left rear and was worried it may have damaged something. I should have told the guy no way in hell I'm doing it but was trying to be a good guy.

Shackles would be my first thing to check, then check the leafs if any of them have broken, specifically in between the u-bolts.

If they broke in between the u-bolts, its caused from not having them tight enough, if outside of the u-bolts, its from stress, or harsh impact.

At least shackles are the cheapest part right?

I looked at the springs and they look fine. Shackles are fine too. I did notice that the top of the shock has greenish blue on it? And that the rod cover is compressed. My truck is leaning through curves pretty bad and the control system is kicking on like crazy when i go around curves and hit a bump. Has to be the shock, right?

my driver side rear Bilstein has zero oil left in it. all i notice is it rides worse then before. my traction control doesn't have any problems. is something wrong with your front end too? maybe a wheel sensor is bad also? idk.

starting with the obvious, the shock, would be a good start to eliminate it, if you do indeed think it looks blown. Bilstein is pretty good at warranty'ing there stuff. gotta call them direct though.

I bought the shocks new off a guy on here. The warranty wouldn't be in effect because of that right? I've ordered another one autoanything and it will now have the full warranty. I'll contact Bilstein and gladly send it back to them after I've removed it if they want to take a look.

I was in an accident a few weeks ago where I was hit in left front. However, this issue with the traction control started before that it just seems to be getting scary bad. I was going around a corner and hit a bump and the back end jumped out a few feet.

I'll replace the shock and then contact my insurance about the front end of the issue persists. Thank you for your help.

As part of the elimination process I contacted Nitto about my tires. The gentleman I talked to said I should be running at 50 front and rear cold. And that low pressure can make the vehicle hop and squat in corners. Before talking to him I did raise my pressure in the front left to 45 (It was at 40 hot). I think I need to let the tires cool down and go up to 50.

I called Bilstein and the guy at Bilstein stated that it would cost me as much as a shock to send it back to them for testing since I didn't buy it from a dealer. He highly doubts it's bad as you've all stated. So, I'm going to have a Bilstein that i'll be selling for cheap in a few days.

It's a rear? Pop it off and see if the rod moves without effort. If it does? It's toast.

I'll try that tomorrow when I pull it off. Thanks

You can undo just one fixing point. Don't even have to remove the whole shock.
