Hello! My husband and I are getting ready to go on a road trip, and wanted to do some maintenance on the truck. I'm trying to be helpful and do some research in advance while my husband is at work... but am having the hardest time figuring out the exact oil/fluid and quantity that we're going to need for the Rear Differential, Front Differential, and Transfer Case. I read through a lot of forum posts.

Can someone confirm or deny my notes below? :) Also, any tips/tricks you have would be appreciated!

Vehicle: 2006 Nissan Titan LE Crew Cab 4WD Automatic

Front Differential:
Oil: 80W-90
Quantity: 3.4 pints (2 quarts)
Notes: A lot of people are recommending Amsoil.

Rear Differential:
Oil: 75W-140 synthetic
Quantity: 4.4 pints (3 quarts)
Notes: A lot of people are recommending Amsoil.

Transfer Case:
Oil: Genuine Nissan Matic D ATF or DEXRON III or MERCON
Quantity: 4.2 pints (3 quarts)
Notes: Some people are recommending Royal Purple Max ATF?

Can't confirm the front diff oil type but I have been using Mobil 1 Syn 75w-140 in both front and rear. Brand really should matter as long as its a quality Synthetic. Transfer case is typically the same fluid thats in your transmission. Mine recommends J-matic and I use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Amsoil is great and commonly used by owners.

Yes, good luck finding a synthetic 80w-90 at autoparts stores. I couldn't this past weekend and just ended up buying the 75w-90 mobil 1, that what i put in. You don't have to get matic-d for the trans case, you can get castrol import atf from wal-mart that is way cheaper and equivalent to whatever mercon III/matic-d fluid properties are, also what I put in my truck. Lastly, the rear diff oil is easy to find, mobil 1 is good, they are all expensive.

tips and tricks:

1. Drain
2. install drain, remove fill plug
3. fill until fluid comes out of fill hole
4. install fill plug

Easier than trying to measure quantities.

Isn't what Nissan recommends for the transfer case, in the same ATF Fluid that goes on in both the Titan & Armada's TC's & Trans'..

I buy all of mine Mobil1 Full Synthetic. Well, I bought the Mobil 1 75W-90 Synthetic, but AutoZone didn't have any Mobil 1 90W-140, so I bought some Royal Purple 90W-140 instead, which isn't exactly a downgrade..

But before everyone gets all over me about how we have to use Nissan' Magic-J this, Magic-D that, Matic-N... Well my Mobile1 Full Synthetic had it right on their jugs: "Works with Nissan Magic-Jz Chrysler's "Whatever Special Name" & so on.

Saved me $75

But that is what goes into Transfer Cases, right? ATF Fluid? Help me. I had it all figured out a year ago, but I seem to be losing my marbles.

Thanks!

If you buy from AMSOIL they now sell them in these squeeze pouches. I just did all my fluids and used those. They're a little more expensive but far and above better than using a hand pump. I used 80W-90 2 quarts for front diff, 75W-140 2 quarts for rear diff, AMSOIL synthetic ATF 2 quarts for transfer case. Took me about 30 minutes for all 3 of those with the squeeze pouches. Like danman said, just fill them up until fluid starts coming out and seal them up.

The first time I did all my fluids, I ordered extra fluid. You're not going to be able to drain every drop out which means you won't be able to fill to max capacity. I ended up with a lot of leftover fluid.

Brake fluid, power steering, and coolant just get from a store/Walmart. It's all the same.

If you look in section 9 of your owners manual, the correct fluids and capacities are listed. If you don't have the manual, a pdf can be found by searching the internet for "2006 Nissan Titan Owner's Manual."

And for the record, here are the correct recommended fluids:

Auto trans - Matic J
Transfer case - Matic D
Front diff - 80W-90
Rear diff - 75W-140

No capacities are given in the manual for these four fluids.

ATF in the transfer case is what you want. You can put in the transfer case, whatever you put in the transmission. Or, buy some cheap ATF and use that. The transfer case won't care.

As long as Matic-J meets or exceeds all the Matic-D specs, that works. Matic-D is spec'd like Dexron III, I believe, but check that. Does J meet those specs? Otherwise, dump some D in it and go. Probably cheaper to use D than J.

OK, thanks. Thats what I thought.
I have a Haynes manual sitting right next to me, but Haynes can be a pita to find things vs a Clymer's.

I just changed my Front Diff, Rear Diff & Transfer Case about 1500 miles ago.. Haven't done my Transmission yet, even though I bought all the fluids @ once.
I just wanted to make sure I had enough for my Transfer Case again... I have to change out my front seal. It's leaking. Not sure for how long either. I figured since I have to drop the front driveshaft and possibly a crossmembers or two, I'd go ahead & install my Rough Country 6" Lift Kit.

Does anyone know if there are any Go Fast parts for the Transmission? Like, a shift kit? I remember on my very first car, when I was 17, I installed a shift kit in my 4L60E on my 1994 S-10 SS (CPI 4.3L V-6, not the TBI 4.3.)
I know everything is computerized even more now, just didn't know if there were any Springs, valve-body's, etc... to upgrade for performance &/or longevity.
