Has anyone redone their steering wheel? The coating on my 2008 Titan SE has been wearing off for a while now. I do NOT want a cheap slip on cover, nor one of those wheelskins that doesn't cover the spokes. I want it to look like it did when it rolled out of the factory. New steering wheel prices are outrageous.

Is there a how to thread? Can you buy a precut leather hide that covers the spokes? If so, where? I'm looking for something like the Xuji steering wheel covers--but they apparently don't make one for Nissan Titans. If no, I assume you have to cut the existing cover of and use it as a template. If so, how do you do the curved seams at 10 and 2? Are there notches on the steering wheel underneath the cover where the seams go?
What kind of thread do yo use? I did see a thread on Titantalk about this, but he did't go into any specifics. It was a black steering wheel--I can't find the link or I'd post it.

I've seen the Chris Fix video where he redid a mustang and want to attempt something like this. This is my daily driver, so I can't ship the wheel off to have it redone. Also, I'm not paying $300 or something crazy to recover a wheel on a 10 year old truck when I can do it myself for a fraction of the cost.

I'm fairly certain you can't have it both ways...DIY and have it look like it did from the factory. No matter who does it, the wheel has to come off the column. The old leather is carefully removed by cutting the stitching and then a paper paper pattern is made from that complete with index marks. That's transferred to the new leather and then the real work begins. It's fairly similar to DIY brain surgery. Find a local shop that supports the hot rod community....you'll have the wheel off anyway. Rent a cheap car from Enterprise for the duration and let a pro do you right. You'll be glad you did when you go to sell or trade.

Or, if you're dead set on trying....http://wheelskins.com/

Or you can just go on Ebay and buy a wheel that's in better shape. That's what I did when my wheel looked shabby. Or you could buy a cheapo Ebay wheel, pulls yours off and have someone do it locally (or ship it off), or try it yourself, and then sell the beater wheel when you're done.
